Should I Spend New Year's in Minneapolis?

Because I think there's a place there for me to write, mostly -- my latent facination with the midwest has not been solved with GWB: The Re-election. It would be for a few days (29th to the 2nd) and would probably hole-up in a hotel room for most of that time. I can't really afford to rent a car anyway.

File this under Abject Stupidity.

if you want to understand GWB then mpls won't help you much! solid blue here, in the city proper anyway.

No, I want to understand the malaise.

Also, I'd like to bring up someting about creative inspiration, specifically, if you believe a solution to a creative block exists, does that belief make it true?

I understand next to nothing about creativity, but is it possible that it is better unlocked by movement than by holing-up?

You should go, but wrap up warm. I'm sure there are plenty of things to do.

I spent New Year's 1995 in Minneapolis. I didn't learn anything except that walking across the Mississippi isn't as big of a deal as it is in Memphis.

My New Year's 1995 was in St. Paul. I learned that shotgunning 80 ounces of malt liquor and puking out of the back door of your friend's car at a gas station is guaranteed to generate ridicule and abuse.

I remember listening to a classic rock station that night, and suddenly getting freaked out because the last five bands had been played in alphabetical order. As it turns out, it was intentional.

What was the time elapsed between shotgunning / puking?

six weeks.

Jimmy Mod - will you/can you listen to the Some Assembly Required show on the radio there?

No, but I might listen to Prarie Home Companion

Now is the time where everyone tells me how hard it is to get around MPLS or not, as I will not have a car, and want to wander around (in the cold in december, by myself...)

not very. if you're coming in by air, i think the light rail is gonna be operating by xmas, that'll take you from the airport into downtown mpls. prime wandering there.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 December 2004 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I got around okay on the buses. I had to go to freaking Mall of America to get to St. Paul, but it wasn't so bad.

Good, good... tell me more

yeah, mpls has got some decent public trans for a midwestern city
the light rail is expanding (the extention to the airport opens on the 4th, so saturday) and the bus system is pretty extensive and good from what I hear.
