and of course we all know ned is not a record collector.

Paul Barclay, Sunday, 25 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ha! Oh, give me twenty years or something, I fear. But right now I don't own a shirt like that, and indeed I don't collect vinyl. I do like to spend that much when I really splurge, though. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was going to say, "those guys didn't spend enough to be Ned"....

I shouldn't tease, if he didn't buy em who would upload cds for me?

Nicole, Sunday, 25 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i was tempted to say something about the hair, but seeing as some kids heckled me with "Dude where's my car?" while i was riding my bike (presumambly in reference to both my "that 70s show" jovi-locks and my lack of a car) i will refrain.

Paul Barclay, Sunday, 25 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned raggett is a Yes roadie or looks like the nearest thing to one.It is now confirmed. He never got past 1975 and is still a virgin via the hairstyle.Cut it Ned baby

the dweeb, Sunday, 25 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He never got past 1975

Ah, I only would have been four at that time anyway. My musical life revolved around Sesame Street tunes and songs from old Popeye cartoons.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 25 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...

I've idly mentioned it before. But it is coming, soon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Soon. Be excited because there is no way you could overhype this.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 24 October 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't been this excited over something since I heard back in January 1997 about "some new Duran album" that ended up being Medazzaland.

Karl Malone, Friday, 3 August 2018 04:05 (seven years ago)

six years pass...

I just needed a thread to get Ned's attention about a question I cant find an answer for.

What is the deal with Peter Jackson, Ralph Bakshi and the Lord of the Rings? Bakshi made some grumpy public statements during their production, then later recanted. But that seems to be just the surface. What I cant figure out why there seems to have been, on both sides, a total memory-holing of the Bakshi adaptation during the Jackson films' production and afterwards. In all of the Lord of the Rings making-of documentaries (which are exhaustive about sources, inspirations etc.) there is absolutely zero mention of the Bakshi film. Even though there are several shots in the Jackson Fellowship film in particular that are clearly an homage to the Bakshi version. Similarly , in the Bakshi book the Lord of the Rings chapter (the shortest in the book) contains zero actual artwork from the Bakshi film, not sketches no stills nothing. It's bizarre. There does not appear to have been any lawsuits. Was there some private dispute/settlement or something? I cant find any definitive info about this and thought hey this seems like the sort of thing Ned would know.

Well you did come to the right spot. This 2018 piece of mine may help:

https://thequietus.com/opinion-and-essays/anniversary/ralph-bakshi-the-lord-of-the-rings-animation-review-anniversary/

And Bakshi did/does regularly share artwork from the film online, or used to via Twitter at least.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 October 2024 02:34 (one year ago)

lol thx
