Ah, I only would have been four at that time anyway. My musical life revolved around Sesame Street tunes and songs from old Popeye cartoons.

Where is big Ned these days? Or am I just on the wrong threads
― calstars, Friday, 3 August 2018 03:52 (seven years ago)
He's around, posts to the US politics thread all the time. Also organized, compiled, and posted the recent Grimes pre-covers project.

I just needed a thread to get Ned's attention about a question I cant find an answer for.
What is the deal with Peter Jackson, Ralph Bakshi and the Lord of the Rings? Bakshi made some grumpy public statements during their production, then later recanted. But that seems to be just the surface. What I cant figure out why there seems to have been, on both sides, a total memory-holing of the Bakshi adaptation during the Jackson films' production and afterwards. In all of the Lord of the Rings making-of documentaries (which are exhaustive about sources, inspirations etc.) there is absolutely zero mention of the Bakshi film. Even though there are several shots in the Jackson Fellowship film in particular that are clearly an homage to the Bakshi version. Similarly , in the Bakshi book the Lord of the Rings chapter (the shortest in the book) contains zero actual artwork from the Bakshi film, not sketches no stills nothing. It's bizarre. There does not appear to have been any lawsuits. Was there some private dispute/settlement or something? I cant find any definitive info about this and thought hey this seems like the sort of thing Ned would know.

Well you did come to the right spot. This 2018 piece of mine may help:
https://thequietus.com/opinion-and-essays/anniversary/ralph-bakshi-the-lord-of-the-rings-animation-review-anniversary/
And Bakshi did/does regularly share artwork from the film online, or used to via Twitter at least.
