Explain the Inexplicable - middle-aged women handing out small flowers and sprigs of "lucky heather" in crowded town centres

Why?!!

I feel I was just very rude to one of these women over by Piccadilly Circus when she tried to pretty much force a sprig of some manky old bit of flora onto me. Will I fall victim to an EVIL CURSE now?

Its a scam, I saw a tv show about it a couple of years ago. Basicly they wait till they find an unsuspecting tourist, demand a fee of say a pound, if tourist dousn't understand, they 'help' them get the right money. This involves taking the largest denomination notes from their weighty wallets.

I've seen footage of them doing it in picadilly circus, and i assure you they get paper. Even if they only manage to fleece a couple of peole a day, if they get a hundred plus of each of them, it sure beats workin' for a livin
