Girly medical question for someone just moved to the states

Ok, so my sister has just moved to Dallas with her husband for three years. he's on secondment, and the business has sorted them out with health insurance.

how does she go about getting a repeat prescription for the pill? Does she just have to find a doctor, give them her medical insurance, and they'll sort everything out?

pretty much.

She should just find a GYN and they'll probably do an annual exam and set her up for a year.

It depends on her insurance. She may need to see a specific doctor. Not all insurance plans cover the pill.

Especially in Texas.

Reading those last two posts nearly made me burst a vein in my forehead.

You want the vein to burst? Know that most of those same insurance plans DO pay for Viagra.

Hahaha actually that's almost tragically funny. This country makes me feel so unclean sometimes.

But he said forehead. (xpost)

luckily a monthly pack of pills isn't that expensive (compared to the cost of having and raising an unwanted child).

Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder... : )

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the viagra thing isn't what's tragic though; it's that most insurance plans will pay for any and all vasectomies, while a woman can only get a hysterectomy if there's some life-endangering reason.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

But isn't tubiligation covered, Jody?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

That's largely because it's cheaper and less risky to do a vasectomy than a hysterectomy, isn't it? I mean, snipping through a scrotum vs cutting through the abdominal wall?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

again, it probably depends on the insurance plan.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

snipping through a scrotum

OW

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes Dan is right, the former is a much more complicated and expensive procedure and it usually isn't deemed medically necessary--tubiligation is I believe the medically recommended procedure.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

That doesn't mean tubiligation is covered either though btw. I really don't know.
