Anyone seen this yet? Stars Hank Azaria....really good show.

Ways in which Huff is similar to Monk:

1) Name of the show is lead characters' surname or variation thereof, which has developed into a monosyllabic nickname.

2) Psychiatry: Huff is a psychiatrist; Monk regularly visits one for his OCD.

3) New outlook on life triggered by someone's death: Huff's patient, Monk's wife.

4) Azaria and Shalhoub both settling into leading role after years of playing various vaguely "ethnic" (usually Hispanic/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern) supporting characters.

I haven't seen it, though.

I'VE GOT ALL THE CHANNELS BECAUSE MY WIFE IS ADDICTED TO TV.

There was a dvd of the first episode in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks back, but I never got around to watching it. Seeing Hank Azaria without his shirt on in the advertisement was off-putting.

It's great so far -- already Hank Azaria's best role, and the supporting cast is terrific. They seem to be auditioning for The Practice's "three episode arc by well known actor playing against type" niche -- Annie Potts, Lara Flynn Boyle, Bob Saget...

BOB SAGET AS A COKE HEAD! I REALLY LIKE OLIVER PLATT.

AND GODAMN IF I DON'T GET MISTY EYED WHEN HE VISITS HIS BROTHER AT THE END OF EACH SHOW.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The brother is used just enough, which is interesting -- one of the commonalities of a lot of pay cable dramas (well, the ones I watch) lately has been that they do a lot of stuff that if network shows did it, it would suck. ABC would make the visit to the brother the Hallmark version of Jerry's Final Thought. Showtime makes it work.

High points so far:

The Hungarian (again, a network would fuck this up)
Lara Flynn Boyle's over the top mania
Oliver Platt, super-lawyer
Rainbow party!
Paget Brewster naked
Hank Azaria's delivery. He's just really good with ... uh, talking.

I could get sick of the secretary quickly, though. We'll see.

It took me awhile to forgive hank azaria for tuesdays with morrie. i'd like to think that helen hunt made him do it. i'm glad he is rid of her. and her forehead.

It was probably a lot of money for the amount of work, too -- he's been in so many canceled shows and rejected pilots that I can't begrudge him taking a shit lead role just for the sake of having a lead role.

But I can also blame Helen Hunt.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Blame Mitch Albom for Tuesdays with Morrie. He should be burned at the stake.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the same guy who did The Five People You Meet In Heaven, isn't it? (There has been an ad for the TV version lately, they always mention his name.) I don't know if I'm relieved that there's only one person responsible for those two books, or dismayed that he's selling more books.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

he is what is wrong with people.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

there should be a new word in the dictionary that means sticky, cloying, syrupy emotions: alboman. albomian.

I like to imagine no one reads past the first two chapters (and maybe skipping to the last two) and the middle is chock-a-block with hardcore Disney slash.
