Does anyone actually like it?

Tom, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cans of Diet Coke floats. Cans of Fat Coke doesn't.

Try it in a bucket now and be shocked!

Pete, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Like it? I live on it.

Trevor., Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My Parents live on it. i think it's far too acidic, myself.

(and that diet coke twist [with LemonTM] tastes like fucking pine cleaner.)

jess, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I drink far too much of it, unfortunately. Regular soda is just too sugary tasting to me now.

Nicole, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NutraSweet = BrainRot. Discuss.

suzy, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I do, better than normal Coke, though all cola is pretty horrible and disappointing really. Does any cola actually taste as good as the picture on the machine? (Suzy?)

(I now have s craving for Cola icepoles. Excuse me)

Graham, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nutrasweet is pretty much been proven to cause prostate cancer

anthonyeaston, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

all coke is evil and horrid, but especially diet coke. the only thing worse then diet coke is that diet coke that doesn't even have caffeine in it! as far as i can see caffeine is the only reason that Coke has to justify its sorry existence!

katie, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aspartame fucks you up physically in SO MANY WAYS, that honestly! A few spoonfulls of sugar causing a few extra pounds would be HEALTHY by comparison. Disgusting. It causes brain damage, especially when heated. Which is why it is such a great idea to put it into things like puddings and jello... things which require heat (decomposes the Nutrasweet into seriously poisonous compounds) and then are fed to children. Very very smart.

kate, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't drink it as Aspartame gives me headaches, but from what I remember Diet Coke mings like a bad 'un.

chris, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Worse than Diet Coke: Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max (WHY?), no doubt Panda Pops. Diet Cherry Coke would be truly horrible but they'd surely never make such a thing.

A guy I work with - a nice one not the horrible one - always drinks decaffeinated tea. WHY MAN WHY?

Tom, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Diet coke cold is about the only coke i can drink. pepsi r yuck, full fat = yuck

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Diet Coke is YUMMY! TOm are you saying you would take Kwik Saves Man Own Brand Kola VS Diet Coke? Now that is ROUGH. Own brand worse drink I haf evan had has been purchase from local corner shop, Batty Iron Brew. GRIM! Should I start an "own brand and oddments drink" type thread for discussion of panda pops/batty brew ect? Or be that unecessary?

Sarah, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Own Brand Cola is a kind of modern spiritual test - mind you it's the one thing that really fucks me off about M&S' otherwise OK supermarket food, for pitys sake mr Marks and mr Spencer drop the vanity coke and get in PROPER COKE.

Tom, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought a few years ago the secret of Coke's yumminess was revealed and own brand colas suddenly became potable? I distinctly remember M&S 'classic American cola' being even dryer and better than the Real Thing.

Nick, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or maybe not so distinctly - I think it was Sainsbury's actually. And Virgin Cola - that was fine too.

Nick, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Spanish and other continental diet coke is much nicer, they sell it in Nani's round the corner. I laugh in the face of nutrasweet and aspartame and say BRING IT ON with your toxins, me and my SuperLiver can deal with you just like they deal with all the other crap I pump into my system.

To answer your question Tom, no I don't actually bloody well like it but neither do I particularly enjoy depilation or exercise but they Must Be Done to prevent me from slipping another notch down the Ladder of Mingingness.

Emma, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Why not just drink a nice sugar free drink, Emma? Like fruit tea!

Yugoslavian Coke makes you fart. This is true.

Nick, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and that diet coke twist [with LemonTM] tastes like fucking pine cleaner

There's a reason the people in the ads look the way they do.

Me, I generally stick with sparkling water at home -- but out and about, sugary carbonization calls me...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fruit tea is for hippies and people who have had their taste buds ripped out. And are you saying I'm fat?

Emma, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fizzy water is FOUL!!!!

Sarah, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pepsi is nicer than Coke. Diet Coke = not good, diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max = undrinkable. Stranger than any of these inventions, however, was Sodastream Cola.

Instructions: pour quantity of cola syrup into dispenser provided (if lost, use a sherry glass or something). Fill small bottle provided with tap water. Insert bottle into Sodastream carbonator and press button on top about three times. Release bottle - watch one third of the fizzy water escape from top of bottle. Add the syrup, watch more of the fizzy mixture escape and run over your hand. Pour the rest of the 'cola' down the sink.

Not everything in the 70s was good.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pepsi is a sugary watery mess.

Nick, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

IT HAS TO BE PROPER COCA COLA! Everything else is shit. Own brands are so bad. Diet is awful. Diet coke is the reason why Sarah und I had trouble ordering takeaways. There is no consensus possible. She is obviously Mental In the Headroom and I am sane. Therefore we still argue over it each time. Mm, fancy curry tonight?

alix, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pepsi is great! Coke is great too, but LESS SWEET THAN DIET COKE!!! So anyone who claims real coke is too sweet, it's not, for crying out loud! It's much dryer than diet filth, and better for you to boot.

Diet Coke is fucked up. Convincing people that it's better for you than good honest sugary cola is one of the world's biggest marketing coups. Filth, I tell you.

Mark C, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I did not intend to write 'und' instead of 'and'. I am a latent German, it appears.

alix, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Diet Dr. Pepper is the best.

Samantha, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not tonight as I am going to booZoR but tomorrow night I think I shall order a nice hot spicy curry yum. We should try that place round the corner @ Luffbra Jcn: I picked up a leaflet I did.

Sarah, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hansen's sodas. There, the debate is ended. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Used to be OBSESSED with it. Now I stick to fruit tea which doesn't upset my stomach as much. Why don't we have Pepsi One in Europe? That drink ROOLZ.

helen fordsdale, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I always think it tastes more sugary than the, er, real thing. I couldn't used to taste the difference but then, all of a sudden, it's a steaming pile of rank.

Bill, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Check this, sent to me by former childhood neighbour (56-year-old retired accountant):

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol > carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove > blood from the highway after a car accident. > > 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and > it will be gone in two days. > > 3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into > the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one > hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke > removes stains from vitreous china. > > 4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub > the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap > aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. > > 5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: > Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble > away the corrosion. > > 6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked > in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. > > 7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into > the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and > bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, > remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with > the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy. > > 8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke > into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run > through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen > grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your > windshield. This is very interesting. Check it out. > > For Your Info > > 1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. > Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. > Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is > a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis. > > 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the > commercial truck must use the Hazardous material > place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials. > > 3. The distributors of coke have been using it to > clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! > > Now the question is, would you like a glass of water > or coke?

suzy, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll still take the coke. what can I say.

Samantha, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have more calcium in my bones than anyone on earth the amount of milk I drink. COKE IT IS. Actually it's a vile corporation and I'd love to break my addiction.

Tom, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

most of those failings suzy lists are also true of pineapple juice of course

top WW2 anecdote: some Brit PoWs escaped their Burmese HellCamp and hid in the lush farm-fields nearby, living on fresh pineapples plucked from the, er , pineapple vine (?). After [x] weeks undetected, they gave themselves up willingly and of their own accord: to a man, all their teeth had fallen out.

mark s, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

this thread = !!

worrabout Diet Rite, the FIRST diet cola EVA?? only 1 calorie, which u can avoid if you don't drink last sip, as it floats to the bottom ;)

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are there any good diet drinks? Methinks the answer is no! Sugar-free ribena is the scum of even the diet world though.

Ally C, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd rather eat my calories than drink them, and I'd rather wrap my mouth around a sewage pipe than drink anything Pepsi-related, and I'm a caffeine addict, so Diet Coke it is. (Once I kick caffeine, which will be never, I'll stick to the caffeine-free version.) I've made a half-assed pact that I'll quit drinking the stuff around age 30 (or so). All that citric acid can't be terribly good. Right now, I happen to be drinking a Diet Coke w/a twist of Lemon (Pledge). The taste of Lemon (Pledge) isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Andy, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Diet Rite ≠ Pepsi! it = Royal Crown Cola, that plucky scamp!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When I was young they all tasted pretty much the same. Then I went through a period of just drinking Coke, and the next time I drank a Diet Coke I was amazed by how awful it was. I can deal with caffeine- free Coke, but caffeine-free Diet Coke is the worst thing ever invented.

Anyone else hear the rumor that the CEO of Coca-Cola says his ultimate vision involves a Coke dispenser in every home in America, similar to a faucet?

Justyn Dillingham, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

five months pass...
It's 10 am, I just drank half a gallon of this vile liquid and I'm feeling euphoric beyond all reason. Caffeine loves and so does Carmen Miranda.

I can hear music, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A guy I work with - a nice one not the horrible one - always drinks decaffeinated tea. WHY MAN WHY?

Caffeine is a diaretic, it can make you more thirsty and more quickly dehydrated. After years of drinking strong black Dutch coffee I stopped all caffeinated drinks for a couple of weeks. Once the headaches wore off I felt much better for it, especially when exercising.

Caffeine 'reduces productivity'

stevo, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In some small shops in London you can get 'coca cola light' - illegally imported from Holland and Germany. I swear it tastes better than the official British 'diet coke'.

David, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I prefer Pepsi RAW.

Mandee, Saturday, 18 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three years pass...
I get the obscure brand down at Takayoshi. (I'm a USAan living in Chiba state, Japan.) It costs 100 yen (about 90 US cents or so) for a liter, and it has the caffeine but no phosphoric acid. Rather sweet though, so I drink it sparingly.

Funny thing, though, is that beer makes my teeth feel cleaner. (Sapporo Draft One, 131 yen a can, is my usual beer these days.) Anyone else notice that with beer? Canned beer also floats in a tub of water, with the diet sodas.

Umikun 13, Saturday, 3 December 2005 08:04 (twenty years ago)

Funny thing, though, is that beer makes my teeth feel cleaner.

I read this as: beer makes my feet feel cleaner. I bet it could do if you drank enough of it.

I never drink diet coke anymore. I think I had my fair share of aspertame intake. I decided to quit eating/drinking anything with aspertame. I know it's s'posed to be okay, but I don't wanna risk it...

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Saturday, 3 December 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

I don't drink sweetened sodas at all anymore. They make me feel gross immediately and in about an hour I feel totally sapped of energy, too.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 3 December 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I've ever had Diet Coke. Real Coke, yes, but only with rum, so hopefully I haven't had enough to rot me. That's what the rum is for.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 3 December 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

I kicked Diet Coke using the patch.

Hunter (Hunter), Saturday, 3 December 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

i rather like that coke one or whatever the fuck it's called. on many levels it's the worst of both worlds, but it's wombing placebo effect is all i ask.

dabnis coleman's ghost (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 3 December 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

Addicted to this shit again

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

I like Coke Zero better now.

Nicole, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

Coke >>> Coke Zero >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Diet Coke > Caffeine Free Diet Coke

snoball, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

Mrs. Redd sent that article to me yesterday.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

thirteen years pass...

Coke Zero Sugar, the new taste (rolling out worldwide right now, USA in August), sucks. It tastes like a can that has been left open for two days.
I'm officially over my previous go to soft drink and looking for something else.

StanM, Monday, 26 July 2021 13:16 (four years ago)

Did Coke forget to trademark "Zero Sugar"? It seems that everybody's got a Zero Sugar variety now.

Hideous Lump, Monday, 26 July 2021 13:50 (four years ago)

coke zero sugar is different from coke zero?

ciderpress, Monday, 26 July 2021 14:14 (four years ago)

zero sugar is the new name for coke zero (at least it is here in Belgium)

StanM, Monday, 26 July 2021 14:32 (four years ago)

They changed the name from Zero to Zero Sugar in the U.S. in 2017.

Hideous Lump, Monday, 26 July 2021 18:44 (four years ago)

Pepsi Max is called Pepsi Zero in the US ? Trying that now - it's certainly better than that new taste (Coca Cola) Zero Sugar!

StanM, Monday, 26 July 2021 19:31 (four years ago)
