U.S. Government's anti-Annan agenda/Oil For Food 'scandal'

sorry if this subject has been touched on before on past threads:

Newsnight reports tonight that according to some members of Congress the U.N. Oil For Food programme was a scam resulting in Annan-appointed staff (includin his son) able to line their own pockets as well as Saddam's, leading to what appears to an increasingly heavy anti-Annan agenda in conservative press there. Others insist the programme worked well and as would be hoped...

Regardless of what's actually true it makes me pretty queasy to think about the idea of the Bush admin bringing about yet more undermining of the UN and Annan's reputation (expect more calls for his resignation if this escalates further), not least because he dared to concede that the occupation of Iraq may well be construed as illegal.

I didn't read this thread until now because I thought it was about the government's agenda against anorexics.

yeah this has been a big thing for awhile, apparently (dear FUCKING god) the oil-for-food scandal is the rationale for the war du jour, plus general concerted anti-UN efforts per usual, which is a little ironic since annan only got the gig in the first place since he was sposed to be more toadyriffic than boutro boutros-ghali. i think i've seen multiple national review-weekly standard covers devoted to this which = this hardon's for real yo. the nation did a rebuttal. in terms of inkgetting scandals it's below rather/cbs news but waaay above the plame affair or yellowcakegate. maybe europe will actually, finally stand up the u.s. on this score *crickets*.
