CUTEST

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I just see some whisper thin clove-cigarette smoking dressed in black drama student hoisting some big ass round thing. Ken C is the Bowie of his time and place.

"THIS AIN'T BOWLING, THIS IS PERFORMANCE ART!"

*cheers of happy crowd*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

We all love him but he only loves himself. THE PERV

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

aww i love you too. come and go bowling with me roxy and ned.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

way to ruin it

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to love bowling in a league, but my knees gave out.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahahaha

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry the laughter was xpost!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

what happened to the knees dude? are there like knee support you can wear that might help?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I like bowling and cloves!
let's be friends

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

come bowling with me then!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'd be okay if I wore my knee brace and started off just a couple of games a day, but the last time I bowled (with some bowling-mad friends visiting from London, wouldn't you know), my right knee was in misery for a week. I donated my shoes, ball and case to the Salvation Army years ago anyway.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

once i bowled a 17.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 17 January 2005 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

so who's coming? londoners? non-londoners? come one, come all.

Let's try that again, it's worth it.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

haha. apparently i always wiggle my bum just before I start the approach. the thought of that put me off for a couple of games, but now i do it deliberately to put others off their games.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

there's still a distinct lack of actual bowling plans formed on this thread.

I bet the londoners are all thinking that this is an actual thread about the SUPER BOWL and thus are avoiding it like Janet Jackson's right boob!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were in London, I'd be all over this, kneez or no kneez. Bowling = an excuse to drink beer. Having an excuse to drink beer in a place with better beer = CLASSIC.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah totally! i once went to this bowling place in Chicago that served beer in bowling pin shaped bottles!!! with a crazy owner who gave us free games as a result of answering his 70s pop quiz all wrong.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm also hopefully going to be joining a bowling league soon with my flatmate! we're gonna get UNIFORMS and everything!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to suggest we actually go bowling on 6TH FEB to coincide with the actual SUPER BOWL. but then realised that i'll either be in York or Hong Kong at the time and definitely not london.

So maybe the weekend before like the Saturday, 29th Jan?????? Nobody wants to play???????

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

How many bowling alleys are there in the London area now? When my friends were over visiting (summer 2000) they said two or three.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

there's surprisingly few of them around given london's size. i know of about 6 around. but i have yet to find a place with decent, well kept lanes as yet. (The ones at Surrey Quays was alright as far as i remember, but it takes around an hour to get there from my house!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

God I miss the AMF in Nottingham.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

So is the camden road bowling team going to be called the Gutterpunks?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the pinheads?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the Alien Lanes?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

CALL YOURSELF "THE SUPERB OWLS".

Do it.

DO IT.

oh so cold here, Monday, 17 January 2005 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, just having lanes isn't enough, they have to be well maintained or it's misery trying to bowl on them. I refused to bowl on the lanes at my university's student center because they conditioned them ONCE A YEAR, MAYBE, TOPS. The owner of Rebelanes in Tupelo is an asshole, but he's a conscientious asshole, and the lanes were always in good condition and hooked consistently when I bowled in a league.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha gutterpunks!! omg that's a good one - and maybe co-incide with my idea of wearing jumpsuits as uniforms! matt's up for that idea but I haven't run through the bit about setting our bowling balls on fire with him just yet.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

haha you guys come up with good ones.. Pinback? Split Decisions??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Irritable Bowl Syndromes?????

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Could Well Be Pin??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Split but you know it!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Splitalfield Market Vendors

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Camilla Parker Bowlers!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You are obsessed, sir.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

that one's rubbish ned!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously the only other londoner who has posted on this thread was Ed. I wonder if it really is because everyone avoided the SUPER BOWL or if they just hate bowling in london.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

honestly! haha.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

when then?

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 21 April 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

really??

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 April 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Like worse than Rowans?!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

awesome!

all bowling alleys should have a touch of grittiness about them (i hope the lanes are well kept, though)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

FOCUS people.

So, still up for this?? Sunday? 4pm? Lewisham???

Can we have a quick roll call? so far stevem and liz:x (+robster?) martin? mattDC? ken???

ken's in.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

robster and Liz:x are in

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, ILX kids are going bowling in my 'hood! can you all wear some kind of identifying badge or symbol, please, so i can tell who you are? as it's a sunday afternoon, i'll probably be stationed outside the ladies' lav with a can of Special.

Lee F# (fsharp), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

can i join you instead?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

feel free - it's open house for the stretch of wall between the lavs and the cold drinks machine. it's like a SE London 'King of the Hill', but with a rotating cast of nutjobs.

Lee F# (fsharp), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure - I'd like to come and play, but I've been in terrible mental/emotioanl shape a lot of the time lately, so I don't know what my odds are. I'm also still unclear why Steve from Stratford and three North Londoners (or four if I make it) are travelling to Lewisham for this. I'll email/text or something if I'm likely to make it, since I don't actually know where it is.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Lee, we must be neighbours. Whereabouts do you live?

I'm not sure I can make this despite it being a stones throw from my flat, as I think I'm going to a cards night in West London. I may pop along early doors though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i confess i was being a wee bit broad, geographically. i am a fashionable East Dulwicher, although i have to stress that i am not a well-off, middle class, married-with-children thirty-something like everyone else in East Dulwich. only the middle class bit applies, sadly.

Lee F# (fsharp), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the lewisham idea is really kind of just a like a field trip.. It just seems nice to go visit other alleys - and it's actually good practice to bowl in different places so your technique doesn't become too particular to one bowling house.

Even though the lanes are pretty much regular size but there are subtle differences that can affect your game hugely (the way the lanes are greased, the approach area including where they place those dots on the floor, the atmosphere of the place). And getting used to that helps the understanding of the game.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Lewisham is just as close to me as Rowans wrt journey time if not a little quicker to get to so I'm fine with it personally.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's further for us than Rowans, fer sure, but it does mean I get to go on the DLR. Yay!

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hey what zone is lewisham?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

2 & 3

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

So this is the AMF bowling in Lewisham, yes? Location?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.amfbowling.co.uk/images/maps/New%20Maps/lewisham.gif

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I would make the shortish bus ride from mine.

But I'll have to see it I can get out of a family commitment

Sean Carter (roc), Saturday, 23 April 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(The DLR is a really shit way to get to Lewisham unless you're coming from East London, Rob. Overground trains from London Bridge take ten minutes)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 23 April 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

DLR is slower, half an hour from bank. But sometimes I prefer it, better views, can be nicer inside the trains.

Sean Carter (roc), Saturday, 23 April 2005 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to watch Man Utd v Newcastle first I think, then see where you guys are. Steve keep yer phone on.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 24 April 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I won't be there, I'm afraid - feeling too rotten today. Have fun!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 24 April 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Lewisham not as good as Rowans, bit more expensive as well i think - but hey it was still bowling.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I was a bit rub. It's Lewisham's fault.

robster (robster), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the place was nice actually - it was a bowling alley for bowlers - the lanes were in better condition, it was well lit, and there were house balls around drilled for hook bowlers! (plus there was this old Storm one that was lying around which hooked like a motherfucker! i had fun throwing a couple)

i wish my right thigh didn't hurt with every single shot though - although i didn't do too badly really considering. hitting the headpin with most shots but just not getting the right pin action but picked up enough of the spares. but not breaking 150 was a bit of a setback as i had hopes to go over 200 that time.

play again soon??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry guys - it was Sarah's last day in the UK for a while and I wanted to hang out with her. Maybe next time.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 April 2005 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

aw we never got the printouts either! (not that our scores were anything to take home about)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

so provided i can get my car fixed in time... anyone up for some unlimited bowling next wednesday 11th may?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

That is kind of tempting. Keep us updated on the car-fixin'!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

keep in mind that this unlimited bowling thing can sometimes disappoint - you can get at least 3 games for your £7 - then when you finish you have to go back to get another 3 (and may not get it if the place gets busy, but normally it's fine).

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Remind me where this is?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

We went bowling in Manhattan (in the Port Authority bus terminal building) but I was rubbish and got 111 and 104 but without a single strike.

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh! Already booked to eat Thai food in Fulham next Weds, can't do bowling as well. Let us know if it's any cop though.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

acton/park royal.. it's where park royal tube station is (hanger lane station is also near - where that big hangerlane roundabout is where the north circular meets western avenue)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem i didn't know there was bowling in that building!!! i walked past it so many times.

i could have gone bowling instead of sightseeing. :(

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I much fancy the journey back from there on a Wednesday night - but what time were you thinking of getting there? It occurs to me that I'll be working late that day anyway, late being 6pm.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno if i'm up for it just yet.. i'd be more persuaded if more of you are coming along.

it'd be about 7pm I aim to get there.. If I go. My car is fixed so lift is available from the Camden Road bowling transport depot i.e. my house, to bowling alley, and back. at about 6:30.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 May 2005 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

A404 would be a nightmare round that time tho probably. I would like to try Park Royal tho, not sure I've ever bowled there.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

you mean the A406?

the north circular runs fine the three times i went on a wednesday night. 15 minutes from holloway (via A1 joining at henly's corner)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yes and okay

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 9 May 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

as you probably guessed i can't be bothered to go tonight (actually i have work to do)

but next weds??????

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I doubt I can afford bowling until payday. It all depends how much I want to eat in the next 2 weeks. Actually, I probably can afford it. I don't intend to eat that much.

Alix with an i? (alix), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

when is payday.

remember that this bowling is CHEAP (well, relatively.. 7 quid for bowling until your arms hurt)

last night in my dream i left my bowling ball at the bowling alley after bowling, and when i returned, someone else had crushed up the ball and it wasn't ball shaped anymore and thus cannot be used properly. and i asked who did it and the staff said that the ball was too crap and i should but this new one (which was basically the magic swerving one i found that day in lewisham).

How strange.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to get this illusive 200 game.

i'll have to make sure i don't damage my right groin the night before this time.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean either elusive or illusory, I think. Possibly both...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no i've just created a new amalgam buzz word. how edutaining.

elusive was what i meant.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Payday is 2 weeks ish. I am happy when I score more than 80.

Alix with an i? (alix), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)
