My god, I don't think I've seen a more hideous crop of dresses. Sheesh.

k3rry, Monday, 17 January 2005 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

only one nice dress so far... though mos def was very well dressed... obviously not in a dress, but... you know...

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 17 January 2005 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

and i hate to be a cliche, but eva longoria... phew...

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 17 January 2005 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Cate Blanchett looks fantastic! Everyone else, various degrees of meh.

daria g (daria g), Monday, 17 January 2005 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

cate blanchett always looks amazing... i feel weird about it, but... natalie portman looked pretty great too. as did claire danes.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 17 January 2005 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yowza. Scarlett Johansson is a visitor from another time...

I liked that dress mischa barton wore to some awards thing recently.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 17 January 2005 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

This one here:

Would you believe I found the pic in a magazine I had kicking around, scanned it in and uploaded it to my webspace? I need to get a life.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 17 January 2005 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Meh. It's late and tomorrow's a holiday.

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Monday, 17 January 2005 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Mariska Hargitay looked pretty hott in this Vera Wang number too I must say:

http://wwwimage.cbsnews.com/images/2004/09/20/image644440.jpg

papa november (papa november), Monday, 17 January 2005 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't Mariska's dress the one that prominently showed off her nipples? If so, that was the only thing I could complain about re: her attire for the evening.

My favorite dress of the night was worn by Sideways' Sandra Oh. I'm SUCH an old-fashioned kinda girl and I thought that dress oozed Pure Class. (Speaking of... its win tonight has convinced me even more that I *MUST* watch that film! Like, now!)

(Oh, and can you believe that Selena and Eva Longoria are from the same TX city? You can? Oh.)

Samantha Baker (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 17 January 2005 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Scarlett looks gorgeous there but that lipstick is too purple

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/01/17/cateblanchettandrewupton_narrowweb__200x275.jpg

Is this Cate's dress? I'm not hott for her hair here.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't see the Scarlett picture, but I would very much like to.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea who Mariska Hargitay is, but I think her dress is boring. It's not plain as in simple and elegant, it's just plain. Even the colour doesn't redeem as green has been everywhere in the last few months. Scarlett on the other hand looks fan-fucking-tastic.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it's difficult to tell from such a small picture, but mariska's hair isn't doing her any favors either.

(she's on law & order: special victims unit but the most interesting thing about her is that she's jayne mansfield's daughter.)

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

But Jayne Mansfield was glorious! Glamour should be genetic or something.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

jm was glorious, yes, and her father is hungarian bodybuilder mickey hargitay who spent most of his time oiled up in leopard bikini pants. perhaps she's overcompensating in the "tasteful" department as a result?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ANNA STOP BEING MEAN TO MY TV GURLFRIEND

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I am sure your In Real Life Wife is much better dressed.

Moral Guardian (Anna), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Mariska Hargitay has a man-jaw.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

also, she's a little too fake tanned to wear that shade of green.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I see SJ on this page now Jordan; if you can't still I st0le it from Yah00

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha my Real Life Wife was talking with her sister about Mariska Hargitay's dress on the phone. Every time I heard the word "nipples" I shouted "YAY!!!!!" I was very unlucky in love last night.

There's a connection there, if only I could see it...

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, there she is! She's fabulous and all, but I'd still rather see her in a sweater.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh.

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been looking at all the pictures on the Sky News website and I'm a bit underwhelmed. All that brown and navy. These are colours that people in uniformed jobs wear, not colours that glamourous starlets step out in. And is it me, or is the makeup way too... colourless? Apart from Scarlet's lipstick and I'm not convinced it goes well with the outfit anyway. Maybe they're saving the showstopping frocks for the Oscars. Also, Halle Berry's tit-up, tit-down dress is horrific.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Halle Berry was trying to represent the divide in US politics with her bosums.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I would also like to know who decided it was alright for the blokes to stop wearing proper evening dress. Of the blokes shown on the Sky News website, only Clive Owen is wearing a proper bow tie. It's not a funeral, people, it's an awards show.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, awesome link.

johnny depp: ew! what happened??

cate blanchett: she's beautiful but rendered totally blah by one-two punch of dull dress and matronly hair.

kate winslet: it's a lovely dress but black isn't good on her.

halle berry: AIEEE!

natalie portman: who let her out like that?

teri hatcher: creepy.

minnie driver: creepier, and the dress is atrocious.

kate hudson & hilary swank: too brown, and the peek-a-boo thing on kate's dress is ugly.

naomi watts: yawn.

portia de rossi: her dress looks like it came from rave.

renee zellweger: too much black. pretty dress, though.

i won't go on anymore. i agree with madchen. stars, please be glamorous. otherwise, please donate your money to me and give me the phone # of sharon osbourne's plastic surgeon and i'll happily do it for you.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa, Minnie Driver looks rough.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ps - clive owen's wife looks like she was wearing something made out of sewn-together neckties, and i'm sad that he would let that come to pass.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

http://cache.eonline.com/Features/Awards/Golden2005/Fashion/Images/barton.011605.jpg

Her head looks Photoshopped on.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

minnie driver: boob job?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Either that, or she's slipped a couple of oranges under her skin.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

she's probably just taped up.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

there was an odd creepy quality to several of those ladies, as noted by lauren upthread. i think it was concentrated in tshe chest/shoulders/neck area. but i really cannot figure out what the cause of the creepiness is.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i think some of it might be due to painfully thin protruding collar bones and stretched facial skin.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 17 January 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, everyone looks so brittle! I still love Cate Blanchett's dress.

daria g (daria g), Monday, 17 January 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

What's with everyone's hair going ten shades darker lately?

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 17 January 2005 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

why was nicole kidman trying to smuggle a peacock in her bodice?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 17 January 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a photo of her dress in the LA Times and I liked it, but I don't like animal things, so if something else could have been substituted for the feather it would have been better. Still, it looked right.

youn, Monday, 17 January 2005 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Natalie Portman is very pretty. (Thanks for the link, Madchen.)

youn, Monday, 17 January 2005 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Uma Thurman looks gorgeous. Her dress suits her.

youn, Monday, 17 January 2005 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Natalie Portman is very pretty, but if it's possible for her to look bad, last night was it.

k3rry, Monday, 17 January 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think some of the women who are very pale should have worn cream instead of white.

youn, Monday, 17 January 2005 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep waiting for Nicole Kidman's looks to just collapse, but she just keeps getting better and better looking.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 17 January 2005 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

That applies only to satiny fabrics. (xpost)

Go Fug Yourself brought this dress to my attention, it was probably the fugliest dress at the Golden Globes even though it was up against some very fierce competition!

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 17 January 2005 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

that looks extremely painful. I hate Cate Blanchets' it looks like a bed jacket. I rather like the way Halle Berry looks though.

isadora (isadora), Monday, 17 January 2005 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Go Fug Yourself is incredible.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't Mariska's dress the one that prominently showed off her nipples? If so, that was the only thing I could complain about re: her attire for the evening.

That someone would "complain" about Mariska's nipples simply bewilders me!

"or you got it or you ain't!"

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

She is going for the "If you squint I am gwyneth Paltrow" look.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that thing diane kruger was wearing may have saved halle berry from being worst dressed. i put kate hudson in third for that honor.

johnny depp, ewan and portia de rossi can wear anything they want and they will still be hot.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlize Theron looks like she's about to fall out of her dress.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

And whats with the frills on everyone, and the *hideous* skinnyness! Half the women look sick, old and emaciated with bad tans and shiny faces... yuck yuck!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep waiting for Nicole Kidman's looks to just collapse

i keep waiting for nicole kidman to just collapse. she just looks ill at this point.

What the hell is that? It's not a dress, it's more like a sari tube top skirt thingy. Or even a sorry tube top skirt thingy.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, god.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

is it halloween? what are all these pics of skeletons doing here?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad Laura Linney is normal-sized, although her eyeliner is a crime. (And she can actually act, to boot)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

My wife affectionately calls Laura Linney "I Can't Act For Shit". As far as I know, she had nothing against Ms. Linney before seeing "Mystic River", after which she developed a blazing antipathy that makes her disdain of Julianne Moore look like gibbering adulation.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)
