Rob B farewell FAP - London, Tues Jan 25th, Princess Louise, Holborn

OK, so as many of you know, I'm about to leave London for a 3-month trip to various parts of Southeast Asia (and Australia). The 25th will be my last night out in this fair city for some time.

Come have a drink with me! As for location, I'm easy - how about that big pub on Holborn that a bunch of us went to once - what was it called?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The Princess Louise?

I am painfully broke until two days later but will obviously have to make it along to this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

done and done

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah! Egad, next week is going to be mental. See you there.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

rude not to really ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, i'll be there...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah! It will be cool to see you guys...

Yes - the Princess Louise, that sounds right. Can someone with the skillz please amend the thread title?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i have computer games to play at home but obviously i'll come along to this.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah - am in Manchester that day :-(

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm afraid I'm going to have to be rude - the 25th is my birthday and I have other plans for that evening. Sorry!

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 17 January 2005 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I am super-broke Rob, so it all depends on people paying me.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes please!

Sarah is hungry, Monday, 17 January 2005 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll give you 50p.

xpost damn that was going to be funny.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 January 2005 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll give you 50p too anna! come along!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

For the first time in my life (please god let that cheque clear) I will have money! I can buy some drinks. Perhaps. I would like to wish the Canadian adieu.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no fucking money and will have even less by the 25th. Rob, if I can't make this, do you fancy a quick pint early doors on Monday?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt - I don't see why not, although like most of you, I also have no cash money! OK, that's not true - I saved up for my trip, but I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to avoid spending anything before I go. So I'm being a bit of a hermit until the FAP...

There should be a secret ILX bar where we can all get free drinks! No, wait - that would be a very bad thing...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll be there. we should think of other competitions that we can do since we failed at the drag-racing option.

but probably not arm wrestling.

will trish come? i miss her!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the Secret ILX Bar was in my old flat in Bloomsbury...

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i think there should be arm wrestling! someone should claim my crown as ilx arm wrestling champion (nb this crown is based on precisely one bout, so it shouldn't be too hard to wrest from my grasp).

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Thumb War > Arm wrestling

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I can win at thumb war. So long as no one makes me cut my nails.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

dude arm is totally > thumb.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to see you all strip down to your skivvies and ROBOT WRESTLE!!!

ihttp://www.nighthawkcomics.com/comics/magnus2.jpg

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Trish will probably come. I'll make her!

I'll take on the lot of you in thumb OR arm wrestling. Bring it!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I can practically fall out of my chair into the Princess Louise so it would be rude not to come for a swift half post-work and reminisce about topspin backhands and stop volleys we have known, loved and failed to execute. (If I'm not there it's because I have a baby-shaped reason.)

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i can come to this! michael, could you bring my records?

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloody hell - your records! Of course, I'll try to bring them (it would be kinda appropriate if PB went into labour the day I'm supposed to give you your records back).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there, and would be delighted to promise to buy Matt and Anna a drink, if poverty is discouraging them. Two drinks each, if that settles it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby, remind us which muscular hunk you beat to win your arm-wrestling crown?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, it has just struck me that that evening is also the incredibly important Southern Section Semi-Final of the LDV Vans Trophy, Leyton Orient vs Bristol Rovers. If it is very cold and my health isn't great I might feel I shouldn't risk a couple of hours sitting outside (I absolutely have to avoid taking any time off work), so will come to the pub. I'll be sorry to miss seeing Rob off if I do go to the game instead, but I've not missed a London game for Rovers since I moved here, so would like to continue that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, it was a close thing, but somehow i beat the fearsome pavement-head-stamping mark c to the title.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

FAPs are like busses, none for ages, and then three in one week... oh, my poor liver.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(it would be kinda appropriate if PB went into labour the day I'm supposed to give you your records back).

was the record in question Sir Mix-a-lot: Baby got back?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i can buy weekly FAP passes that entitles me to pre-paid unlimited drinking throughout the week.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

No, no, I want to buy a book of FAP passes which I can save and use as needed, because what about those weeks when there are no FAPs at all?

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

then you don't buy a pass!! (hence the weekly)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

unless the annual FAP pass entitles you and 4 friends 1/3 off prices at non-FAP drinking establishments.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Next you'll be talking about FAP Oysters and that's just wrong. I want the little booklets of FAP passes that I can use when and where I choose.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

But with a FAP Oyster you could still use it when you please, save paper, and get discounts!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but then the government will know WHEN and WHERE and HOW MUCH you FAP and I really don't want Mr. Livingston knowing that much about my FAPping habits.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

but then they would be able to provide you with FAP information that is personally tailored to your FAPing habits!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, like that's not going to drive me straight to the nearest box of tin foil to make myself a TINFOIL PINT GLASS to protect my pint from the government's evil beer-controlling ways.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

was the record in question Sir Mix-a-lot: Baby got back?

No! It was actually the second Cannibal Corpse LP.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I will not attend, but I wish Rob a safe journey. Bring us a stick of rock!

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Revive as a reminder. I'm not feeling terribly fit and well, so I may have to give the football a miss. I'd be sorry to miss seeing Rob off, so I'm not too disappointed with this state of affairs.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 24 January 2005 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll be there. i'm working from home, so i might be pretty early, depending on whether i get anything done/go to the cinema first/etc.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 24 January 2005 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I can be there pretty much anytime - I assume 5pm will be about the earliest anyone would be there? I'm now in the midst of full-on pre-trip jitters, so some adult beverages are definitely in order...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 24 January 2005 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there sometime after 5.30, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 24 January 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

A quick trip to the cashpoint has confirmed I can indeed come to this. Yay. I'll see you in the pub about 8.00, I think.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I made cake and it has a hole in the middle. See you after work!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be here tonight.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i think so

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

but, did michael jones remember my records?

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, here's the pub since it hasn't been linked yet:
http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub482.htm

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

am pretty tired, so maybe i'll have a nap later and not be out too early? sometime between seven and eight, i imagine.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

depending on whether i'll be able to get in some gym at lunch i might go after work and if so will be there around 7 otherwise 6. i hope they have jim beam at the princess louise.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

but, did michael jones remember my records?

Aargh. No, he didn't. Pathetic. I'm sorry.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be there, but I will be there early doors (probably 6.30 or so) and will not stay long as I'm supposed to go to a movie at 8pm. But I really want the chance to say goodbye to Rob properly. And I hope that everyone doesn't arrive after I leave, cause I'd like to say hello.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope they have jim beam at the princess louise.

No they have their own weird SS spirits innit. No music anymore either. I wonder if the pub Rob initially meant was The Cittie Of Yorke (surely he's been to the PL several times?), no matter tho

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it was the cittie of yorke i think. but i guess it's princess louise now!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really hoping my friend still works behind the bar there. If so, I'm going to rock that Aussie connection and try to get free drinks.YEAH!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I was there on Friday night, they had the most depressed barman in the universe working that night

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

arrgh. i'm going to try to stop in as i want to say farewell to rob but i'm in the all-too-familiar position of being owed loads yet having about £10 in actual cash.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob, there's no way I'm going to be able to make it tonight, on account of being SICK and also ILL. Safe journey & see you soon.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't look like any maternal emergency will drag me away but I'm not up for a late night - I will stop by long enough to buy Rob, Lauren and Gareth a drink (6-ish?) tho.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I will get to meet Mike at last!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be the one looking like Mikael Pernfors gone to seed.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

But No 1 seed, surely.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

won't be able to come to this but have a gd trip rob.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry some of you can't make it - thanks for the well wishes on the trip! And I suppose I'll see the rest of you down there. I'll be there around 5:30.

Yes, I was actually thinking of the Cittie of York originally, but I don't care - this pub sounds good too. I want to see the gents toilets!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, isn't it burns' night tonight? i wonder if the pub serves haggis. i am 50% scottish, after all...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

if not, i'm sure robbie would approve if i toasted his honour with a nice scotch

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Get it right Rob, it's Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn's Night. Aren't you from Ayrshire into the bargain?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Rabbie not Robbie!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Robbie O'Burns, famous Irish poet...

I was going to wear my kilt today but bottled it as it's so freaking cold.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
Gie her a Haggis!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry some of you can't make it - thanks for the well wishes on the trip! And I suppose I'll see the rest of you down there. I'll be there around 5:30.

when i first read this, i thought rob was saying he couldn't come tonight, and i was very confused.

i need to slow down with the reading.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there in spirit! Have a wonderful trip and a killer last night in town, Rob!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Roxy! I now realise I have a helluva lot of stuff to do tomorrow, so I can't get too drunk...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I shall also be along for 5.30ish, I think! See you all there!

Sarah C, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost you'll be fine as long as it doesn't involve orienteering rob!

oh no suddenly i get the fear that you will show up at somewhere in fitzrovia thinking where the hell everyone is!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

also, is Rob Brennan coming tonight? And tonight is burns night. How the fuck are people going to tell who is who when the name "Rob B" is called?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

His name is Robster.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

PJM (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

it was fun! i drank too much lager. my head hurts. i got great tips for thailand from mr. porkpie. i wish i could have talked to people for longer, but maybe that's not so bad since i was probably making less sense as the night went on...

anyway, thanks to everyone who came along to wish me well, buy me drinks, etc. i guess i'll see you all sometime after may!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I left so early and was generally lame, but I'm glad that I got to say goodbye, and besides, the PHAAAAAAAANTON of the OOOOO-PERRRR-AAAAAHHHH was inside my mind.
