my little finger is tingling, that must mean that fashion week in Milan is starting.

So they say tweed is already over? WTF.

"Clark Kent clones paraded classically cut business suits, and bare-chested models wore studded jeans slung low enough to warrant a bikini wax. Cult British label Burberry Prorsum pinned colourful fake flowers made of tartan mohair to shaggy sheepskin coats, vivid velvet jackets and plasticised cloaks."

Another wacky VW creation...

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I just tried on a Vivienne Westwood shirt and I kind of looked like a big poofy pirate.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I did not buy it.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I just want the pirate hat.

Roberto Cavalli, for the goth pimp in your life.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

OH MY GOD I NEED THAT!

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Maroon velvet...now I could go for that.

(But no man that thinks maroon velvet is a good idea would ever go for me, so the point is moot.)

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

In the meantime, doesn't Mr. Maroon's head look strangely large? Even allowing for the manorexia?

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It does almost look like it was photoshopped on.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray for a new fashion thread! Yeah, tweed is kind of done, although it is still practical here in New England because it's freakin COLD outside. I still think basic tweed is OK, but gratuitous tweed (ie handbags and really fashiony clothes) is over. I'm not giving up my tweed suit though, it has a fabulous accordion pleat full skirt that is still stylin and anyway, it's not like I live in New York.

Where is that spring fashion thread, anyway? It's not like people are wearing the stuff yet. I am busy hawking vintage on teh eBay and wondering what I should scout out to pull in maximum $$$ when all the spring buyers show up.

daria g (daria g), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

tweed will always be classic. but damn, i am so glad people are starting to realize that brooches were DOA. There was a great article written about how the brooch trend had a extra super short shelf life because it was a trend anyone could do no matter their dress size or bank account heft. I just thought they made people look matronly.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

well viv did dress adam ant. judging from these pics she just phoned in her collection from 25 years ago (not that there's anything wrong with that). i always love prada (i guess cuz i like lil guys and they dress em better than anyone), though burberry's 60's dandyism is kinda irrestible.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

would I like fashion? I like fashion students, they are always pretty.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Prada as a whole would be close to perfection if they had never done those horrible vela nylon bags. Those things are atrocious and they will not go away.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, what's with the terrible hats and bags? to make this collection look different than any other year perhaps.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, that picture upthread is basically just everything Vivienne did for her Seditionaries store back in the day. But I'm always in favor of an early 80s revival, no matter how played out it is.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn I wish my mom had broadband. More descriptions, ladies!

There was a Vivienne Westwood exhib at the National Gallery in Canberra, which I recently went to. I was bemused to note that her current season (as per Nicole's pic above) is strangely much like one she did back in the early 80s, during the Adam & the Ants/Bow Wow Wow era.

She's pillaging her own style! I didnt know what to think.

Looks great though, I love her early stuff (the tweed and tartan and pirate shirts and layers of rough fabrics).

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 January 2005 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it is time for paris couture!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Not couture, but all the high street shops are full of cocking gypsy ruffle skirts for Spring. We can't go through all that again, surely.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like the Armani collection, with all the fishtails and cute little hats.

liz, unfortunately I saw all that pushed in the latest Harpers Bazaar, horrible stuff.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Valentino was just lovely as well. Galliano for Dior even toned it down, just for me! Thanks John!
