You often hear ppl saying that they are not the "joining" type - they don't join any kind of group...they only need them and their mates and they're fine. But have we lost something in our desire to free ourselves from the shackles of the past? The feudal system, absolute monarchies, empires, religion - many ppl take the evils of these as a given. But some others (maybe many others) would add trade unions and membership of political parties to the list. But, at the same time, have we thrown away the baby with the bathwater? Is some new kind of instituion needed to replace the old, in order to ensure that the poor and disaenfranchised get cared for and have the chance to have a fair chance? Or should we accept that ALL instituions are bad, and as soon as we give something a name, or accept it as any form of collective, we are automatically on the road to ruin?
