You know, I kind of miss last summer

which is weird because it wasn't a particularly great summer for that matter - I was just working and getting caught out in the rain and going raving and festivals and stuff. ILX was particularly good as well.
I often do this, again around the winter time I get nostalgic for only 12 months ago. Weird or not?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

this happens to everyone. don't get mired in it, it's just idiot energy. better to focus on the summer at hand.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes I know, I know. In a strange way it's nice though, being nostalgic. At the same time this summer is looking to be great *touch wood* as I have my own place, a better job and a fantastic girlfriend plus the weather just couldn't really be any worse than it was last time round.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

you're telling me

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

last summer was ok

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

last summer was amazing. this summer's going to be amazing too.

cindy margolis holocaust (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

can't find the article anywhere online, but one of my all-time favorite onion headlines is "area man always nostalgic for four years ago."

*sigh*

Well, I guess the summer hasn't even started yet and I'm already in a summer mood so that's good! Three or four months of fun ahead. You know I'm sure I had photos of the Cambridge punting FAP in my photobucket but no.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 9 May 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I have this weird pang of nostalgia for this time last year. Which is weird, because I know things are actually better now, and this time next year I will be wasting my time thinking about how great things were in March 2004.

Maybe its because I don't think I'm going to be seeing much sunshine this summer. I think it could pass me by, where as last year there seemed to be so much in front. I hate summer pressure.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 9 May 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm pretty certain this summer is gonna kick last summer's ass.

joseph (joseph), Monday, 9 May 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

word

Fetchboy (Felcher), Monday, 9 May 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to always be nostalgic, and it's my least favorite personality trait. I'm always wishing it were last year. I romanticize the past.

Last summer was pretty terrible for me, I am happy to move on to summer '05.

Leon Federline (Ex Leon), Monday, 9 May 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Last summer was mostly low key but often wonderful. This summer should be the spiff! July in Europe, August seeing a slew of family back home in Carmel during Concourse weekend, and much more besides that I'll not post here to keep from jinxing it. But I've good hopes. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 May 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Anchorman with a buddy last summer on a hot Saturday in July (or late-June, I forgot). I was dying to see it on DVD but it wasn't as funny as I remembered it was when we saw it together.

Remember, nostalgia is homesickness as disease.

It's lovely to read of such happiness.

this summer will be my first in portland!

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Love and hate was in the air, like pollen from a flower
Somewhere in April time, they add another hour

I guess I'd better think up a way to spend my time
Just when I'm ready to sit inside, it's summer time
Should I go fishing or get a friend to hang around
It's back to summer, back to basics, hang around

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Last summer I was in the Philippines seeing vocanos and jungles and rice paddies, riding in jeepneys and tricycles and buses and jets, eating rice and fish, rice and chicken, rice and lumpia, rice and adobo, rice and pancit, rice and banana and pineapple and papaya and mango and rice and rice and rice.... It was fun!

pepektheassassin (pepektheassassin), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

jeepneys!

cindy williams permafrost (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

last summer was good, in a precusor to this summer kind of way

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember what I did last summer, so it must not have been THAT great.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just been told I'll be visiting my family in Aquitaine, France for the first time since 1998 in August so that's the best news I've heard in ages!!!

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I have AC for the first summer EVAH!

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

summertime is the best time of year IMHO, so as soon as august comes to a close, I get sad and start missing summer. I miss the days when I was in school and had 2 months off to do NOTHING except what I wanted like beach and hanging around with my friends by the pool. It's no fun being an adult with a job and responsibilities.

Wiggy (Wiggy), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

last summer was very good, but this one's going to be so much better. i can't wait.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I miss last summer and the ones before

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

But I'll be visiting you RJG. Sense the passion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I love summer too, but I feel like I'm inside at work all the time anyway. I miss summer vacations. :-(

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

this summer has potential

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

there's far too much stigmatisation over Summer.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i miss 2003. last summer=teh suX0r, but then i was moving house and whatnot. plus, although ilx was more intense than presently, it was also a lot more bloody.

N_RQ, Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have any nostalgia for the last four summers. I wish they had never happened.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I got made redundant just as last summer started. Job found early November.

Perfect timing for Summer. If there'd been one!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to always be nostalgic, and it's my least favorite personality trait. I'm always wishing it were last year. I romanticize the past.

Glad I'm not the only one... I really hate this. Often I'll miss the fun at hand by thinking how nostalgic I'll be of it in the future. Life passes me by, really.

Baaderonixx (it must be a camel) (Fabfunk), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The "fun at hand" option is currently not available to me.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
I'm feeling really nostalgic today!! GAH I hate this feeling! Why do I ALWAYS feel like my life was better before?

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

B-b-but you didn't know MEEEEE before!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

last summer, though i didn't really have an opportunity to go anywhere cool, i got to bone someone i really really cared about on a pretty much daily basis, sometimes more. this summer, not. and i'm still too broke to travel! bogus.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

nick, let's astrally project!!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

i feel paranoid between you two. like you're gonna astrally talk about me behind my back.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

I don't miss (my) last summer at all.

RS (Catalino) LaRue (RSLaRue), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

I start to miss last summer, but then I remember that last summer wasn't any better than this summer.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

nick, let's astrally project and astrally talk about andrew m. behind his back!!

I took a summer class like in 2001 – but I totally didn’t feel like going to class, so I skipped pretty much every other day and read in the library – one of my favorite things to read was a manual on astral projection. I tried it a few times but, you know, it didn’t work. I was hoping to dance on the rings of Jupiter 

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Summer = Work for me, so I definitely don't miss last summer, or any of the last few.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

the music's better and the drinks are cheaper over on saturn's rings. xp

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

i meant rings of saturn, but I am dumb.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

well you didn't successfully astrally project anywhere yet, so it doesn't really matter.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

apparently in order to astrally project correctly you have to sleep naked, and have your head face south. or west. I can't remember.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Jupiter has rings too, doesn't it? Or am I thinking of Uranus. I mean, whichever it is, you're likely to have a better foothold on Saturn anyway.

I dunno, I'm too lazy to look it up.

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

if i could astrally project, i'd like to fly through time

because once i saw this exhibit at the denver museum of natural history - it was all these pretty shitty paintings of colorado through the AGES - like how the climate changed and such; at that point i wanted to fly through time soooo badly
