oh my god who are all these obnoxious, smug, unfunny TWATS on my television right now?

stevie (stevie), Monday, 9 May 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

truly dreadful. could only be worse if jimmy carr was on it. what is it with channel 4 these days, are they deliberately going out of their way to hire the most unfunny obnoxious presenters?

zappi (joni), Monday, 9 May 2005 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i was expecting it to be pretty bad, but after watching 5 minutes I was completely overwhelemed by how awful it was. It had no redeaming features what so ever.

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone remember Loose Talk on Radio One/BBC 2 ten years ago? Channel 4 is hoping no-one did.

Worst spectacle was seeing the hairy man laughing at all the jokes more than they deserve. Ie at all..

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

jokes about Nazis. contemporary.

that one bloke looked like a fetal thom yorke.

and it's on every night this week...

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

they will have 0 viewers by the end of the week. i hope.

stevie (stevie), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

how does it compare with 'the 11 o'clock show'?

N_Rq, Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like The Morning After Show on T4. Watched it the other day and that greasy fella with the beady eyes and flared nostrils is actually extremely funny.

CALLER: I'm 13. If you were 13 and had the same amount of money you've got now, what would you spend it on?

TGFWTBEAFN: Glue.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It actually reminded me of that awful panel show that whichever one it was from Adam and Joe did a few years ago.

I did enjoy the weird disjunction when it finished and an interview with Abbas Kiorastami started - it was like the old days of mental-schedule C4.

I thought he was more Baby Brian Eno, koogs.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea what this show is about. C4 should do another one of those things where ten people and Normski just shoot the breeze for an hour or so.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

This Week Only, also featuring Lauren Laverne and Nick Frost, so not completely terrible (tho mostly).

C4 should do another one of those things where ten people and Normski just shoot the breeze for an hour or so.

What was that show called, Heavy Talk wasn't it? That nearly made me spit blood with it's badness.

Philip Alderman (Phil A), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Channel 4's current programming is obviously an attempt to make us feel grateful when Big Brother returns.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

seems a bit TOO clever...

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

so, do you think short haired blokes with black rectangular glasses were on special offer?

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 07:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I decided to watch this last night as I couldn't believe it would be as bad as people were telling me. It's worse.
Are the people in the audience paid to laugh?
The close ups of JLC gurning at every lame gag attempt were too freaky to bear so I didn't even make it to the commercial break. Who in television gave this guy a job and why?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

bring back 4 Later

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, but imminently we'll have Big Brother's E-Forum hosted by Russell Brand. Possibly the only man alive who makes JLC look like teh funney.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

more like russell brawnd; english twats

anglophobe, Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Russell Brand looks like a cross between Skeletor and a member of Shed Seven.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

RICK WITTOR!!!

How Channel 4 describe FAQ U on their website:

23:05 FAQ U
Will global warming make Dunstable the new Dubai? Is hunting foxes cool now it's illegal? Would you rather have no knees or no elbows? These and other 'Frequently Asked Questions' are posed, pondered and pontificated on by a panel of Britain's brightest comedy stars.

"comedy"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I missed this tonight (and all other days), but there's no possible way it could have been less funny that the speed dating thing that followed it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

don't bet on it.

("Stop, Hammer Toe" did make me laugh though)

i managed to tear myself away from the car crash that is FAQ-U and flicked over to 5 and caught about 2 minutes of The Farm, something i wouldn't normally stoop as low as. Ron Jeremy, in the bit i caught, sounded like a charming, intelligent human being not the Sid James-esque letcher i'd imagined. and Flavor Flav was talking to Orville the Duck as if he was real (Orville, not Flavor Flav).

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Bump, more JLC hate please. I saw it briefly last night and the Hairy Bootyflake was getting a tattoo of FAQ-U on his arse (admittedly difficult to distinguish from his face). At least he is now branded in case ANYONE ELSE EER TRIES TO GIVE HIM A JOB.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 12 May 2005 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

does anybody like him? i was reading star (one of the grimmer celebrity magazines, from the northern and shell stable) the other day and they had him in their "going down" column with a blurb like: "who is this beardy shouting nonentity?" so if even the lowest common denominator hate him ... WHY IS HE ON TV?

say what you like about jimmy carr - and i have, repeatedly - but at least he has some talent. he's an established comedian who built a whole act around acerbic one-liners (not original, but still a decent trick), and has on occasion made me laugh loudly. when nobody knew who he was, his smugness was entertaining (and kinda ironic); the problem is his ubiquity. a smug cult is fine; a smug cunt isn't.

but god almighty, come back jimmy, all is forgiven. JLC is a throbbing phallus; an almighty gusher of spunk.

So, next week, is it going to be, like, "if you were on an airline seat and alsion moyet sat next to you(etc etc)" or "If a ravenous lion fell on your head, who would you rather have cushion the blow: 1. phil collins 2. shakin' stevens (etc etc)" I think this sounds like the only hope for this program

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Then the presenters could be all like "YOU = PC NAZI I AM LEAVING THE STUDIO FOREVER AND SUING YOU"

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Then one of the presenters could accuse one of the cameramen of being james bl0unt, who obviously sent him all that junk mail.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd probably watch thi program if it was like that, and if i had a telly of course.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

actually no, probably i wouldn't.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

(checks statscox0r)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

do you have the number?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i am going to make it up

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone else, anywhere, now and forever, is frequently asking themselves these sorts of questions, I seriously hope they're considering the one about blowing their heads off with .38 magnums as a service to humanity with the weightiest of gravitas. Especially JLC.

The Irrelevant Man (Negativa) (Barima), Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone else stay up for the speed dating sketch show?

The Irrelevant Man (Negativa) (Barima), Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

Let us never speak of it again.

Masked Gazza, Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

revive! (sorry m8)

they've changed hosts. this week's host is the dark-haired one from Peep Show. he was on as a guest on friday night and the atmosphere was markedly different - lots more talking between the guests (whereas previously it used to be JLC asking one member of jury the question, an invariably unfunny answer, JLC pulls a face, rinse, repeat. question time is often funnier...) so let's see if this improves.

koogs (koogs), Monday, 16 May 2005 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Did (note:past tense) JLC ever get any non-hostile reviews for this? Every (which is not many, granted) TV review I saw went out of their way to do a review of this programme Just to put the boot into JLC. (I didn't see this prog, but other progs I've seen, he comes across as an affable loon).

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 16 May 2005 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The only funny thing about JLC is that you can turn the sound down and superimpose your very own neanderthal/Brian Blessed voice on him.
