advice on Powerbook won't read blank CDs

my 2 year old powerbook for some reason stopped reading blank CDs, it just spits them out (after making worrying shunting noises for a few minutes) sometimes it shunt-shunt-shunts then keeps hold of the CD but it doesn't show in the finder or anywhere else.

It will read already burned CDRs, audio CDs, data CDs and DVDs but not blanks and i've tried several different brands. I've tried googling the problem but can't get any real pointers. Any advice on what i should try?

Thanks

Sorry, but I seem to have a similar problem, which I asked about in another thread. Are you using Tiger?

this is my problem, too, except i'm using a pc. each time i try to burn something, it says "insert a blank cd" even though there's already one in there. usually that's followed by the whole OS freezing up, the light on the disc drive remaining lit, and ejecting the cd impossible, forcing me to pry the damn thing open.

Have you checked Apple's powerbook forums? Maybe someone there will be able to help.
