Quoted in a footnote to an article by sociologist Gary T. Marx:

Paul Newman received the following letter complimenting him on his spaghetti sauce: "My girlfriend mentioned that you were a movie star, and I would be interested to know what you've made. If you act as well as you cook, your movies would be worth watching. Are any of your movies in VCR?" New York Times Magazine, Sept. 31, 1986.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

He is very good at tie-fidgeting, sweating-before-the-heatt reaction shots.

Kid L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

my father saw the movie with the name at the end of it. it said paul newman. that was the proof he was doing acting in the movie. he saw the whole thing. paul newman is proofed of being on cans and at least one movie saw by my father. other persuns here said they saw paul newman in the movie or on cans too. thats more proof of it.

Be careful of putting your real address online, Mary.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to think of it, I knew a Mary Jackson once, but she lived in Ohio, I think. Was a librarian or had something to do with libraries perhaps.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Was a big fan of - what's the guy's name with the striped shirt and mustache, mallet and melon combo?

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

That was the mark of whiskey Newman drank in The Verdict, it was 80-proof, I believe.

Paul Newman filmed part of an HBO movie in my great-grandmother's house in Maine.

It aired just recently as a matter of fact. "Empire Falls". I saw a brief scene featuring the kitchen. It was so weird seeing that!

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the movie where he played Pancho Villa?

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got Empire Falls on the VCR ready to watch (taped it off HBO) .. I dunno if it's any good or not, but I'll keep an eye out for yer granny's kitchen.

diedre mousedropping and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I just hope she kept him away from the melons.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

diedre mousedropping and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)
