Who gets a second chance, besides your own kids?

Like the "once a cheater, always a cheater" rule, it seems like a lot of people make up their mind about someone at some point once and for all, regardless of any changes that person might go through after personal judgement has been rendered.

Or am I wrong and people get second chances all the time?

Do you have an interesting story about a second chance? Was it worth it?

Random tossers on the internet don't.

Do you give this lady a second chance?
Or how about this little kid?

The world is filled of great depressing stories today.

She was party to the drugging, raping and dismemberment of two teenage girls. Can't remember if they were able to nail her for what she did to her sister.

She looks innocent enough, not.

Second chances are really risky business and seem to go against human nature, except that it is also human nature to be forgiving and compassionate.

Also, TOMBOT, I disagree based on my personal experience.

So many people I've decided weren't worth the bother only to change my mind when I knew them better. I don't think final decisions on anything are a good idea. Also, in my case, I'm wishy-washy.

TOMBOT, I know you didn't ask and probably won't return to this thread, but:
People who are dicks part 11: TOMBOT

Er, my point is not that you're a dick, but that I think you've been given a second chance.

ReNTBAPA: Resolute Not To Be A Prick Anymore (Unfortunate Prankster), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, you just blew my mind.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Blew your mind? How so?

BTW, that evil-looking chick up there is the one that was sobbing in court? She doesn't look capable of remorse.

From now on, I'm giving everyone another chance. Not with my money or my heart, but in a general sense, I mean. That doesn't mean I'll walk into a dark alley with 'em or anything, but I've just been really paying attention at work and everybody "hates" all these famous people or business aquaintances based on ONE specific citation, it seems. While I'm listening, it's easy to believe they took something the wrong way and the hater is more at fault than the hatee. But, I have to nod like, "Yeah, you're right to hate that person" because otherwise I'd sound all Jesusy or something.

TS: giving someone who really did do you wrong a second chance vs being a patronising wang who just assumes everyone has to re-earn your respect.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 June 2005 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I've given second chances. Some were huge mistakes. One wasn't. It depends on the person. And you should know someone PERSONALLY before you decide to hate them, don't base it on gossip.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 3 June 2005 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce, what does TS mean?

ReNTBAPA: Resolute Not To Be A Prick Anymore (Unfortunate Prankster), Friday, 3 June 2005 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually looking back at what I posted, it needs modifying. One S.O. who I gave a second chance to was a mistake. The second S.O. I gave a second chance to, but who was also an exceptional person, was worth it.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 3 June 2005 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

S.O. I was able to figure out all by myself, but TS still eludes me.

TAKING SIDES?!

ReNTBAPA: Resolute Not To Be A Prick Anymore (Unfortunate Prankster), Friday, 3 June 2005 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Most people shouldn't be given a first chance.
