lizards in my apartment

so I've just discovered a lizard infestation in my apartment. not big ones, they're maybe four-five inches long, brown in color, just sort of minding their own business, roaming around my hardwood floors. I've captured/released three at this point and there is at least one more.

they look something like this, i haven't had a chance to snap pics yet.

Why do you keep capturing and releasing them? Can you not make your mind up about the rights and wrongs of lizard incarceration?

maybe they can trade places with s1ocki's rooftop punks!

i'm getting a little hungry here

lizards are cute. and the ones you're talking about aren't venomous (most lizards aren't), so you have nothing to worry about.

they're actually quite friendly. i picked one up in my hand and he jumped on my shirt and was hanging onto the front of it. I walked outside and shook him off onto the grass.

so far in my apartment, since I moved in:

mice
silverfish
spiders
ants
lizards

I can handle all of these just fine.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

silverfish are fucking nasty. I've found two in my place over the last year. they are like classy roaches. fuck that.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

Lizards are brilliant. Spiders are OK. All your other infestations are awful. I hope the lizards and/or spiders ate them all.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, I think of all the potential vermin you could have, lizards are probably the best. they're quiet, friendly, non-toxic, they don't shit everywhere, and they don't eat anything besides bugs. Compared to mice, ants, and silverfish that's pretty fucking sweet. although what they're doing in yr apartment I have no idea.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i've ever seen a silverfish.

on second thought, seeing that yr list includes spiders, ants, and silverfish, its pretty obvious why you have lizards.

my silverfish are under control. the ants haven't been around since October. the spiders have mysteriously vanished over the past week. The mice have been gone since winter. but now, lizards! I like the lizards, it's just a little startling to see them.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Hehehe, Mr Lizard.

You need to hire an old lady to eat them in turn. Though it does mean you'll end up with a horse infestation before things get better.

WTF is that?

tis a silverfish.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

silverfish are fucking vile.

Little lizards are cool though. We see tiny translucent geckos running around every now and then. sometimes in my cat's mouth. sorry guys!

they don't shit everywhere,

Hmm, I have an iguana who would prove you sadly, smelly-ily wrong.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

I used to have loads of silverfish in my bathroom.

If lizards don't shit everywhere, where *do* they shit?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

as you can see, it's not very big. about as long as my middle finger. he was at the bottom of my empty trash container.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

where do you live?

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

i can only surmise that maybe someone in your apartment building has a vivarium and some eggs hatched and they escaped. there is something surreal about finding an amphibian in your home uninvited. I'm not sure it's a bad thing!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

I live in Los Angeles, near a large park (which certainly has its fair share of lizards, being in a desert and all)

this infestation can only be described as charmingly surreal, yes!

gear (gear), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

I like the little lizards I see in my house. It's fairly common here (texas).

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

i'm worried i'll step on one, because they're so small and difficult to see on the hardwood floor.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

FUCK silverfish. fuck also: centipedes, earwigs. i'm sure roaches suck too but i've never had to deal with them.

lizards don't sound all that bad really.

sleep (sleep), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

I've decided to lay down a tray of sand in the hallway between my bedroom and bathroom while I'm gone the rest of the day, just to see if any tracks are left and--if so--how many.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

i have a mouse. i suspect she came in during the summer b/c she was pregnant. i found one of the babies in the bathtub. i don't know how to humanely get rid of her!

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

suckle her and raise her as your own

gear (gear), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

i'd rather have lizards. by a long shot.
the thing is, we can't use any poison b/c
1. i hate the idea of having that crap around & 2. i have other rodents in the house, but they're pets. and caged.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

i like lizards!

I'm so jealous! It looks like an anole (ah-no'-lee). Some nurserymen keep them in greenhouses to eat bad bugs. He'll take care of those silverfish, etc.
Weird you have silverfish in LA. I associate them with damp old books.
