The rolling London football-watching thread

This should come in useful at some point. Pub, telly, actual proper matches - plan here. Which games are being televised at the weekend?

Hello stranger. Oh you mean watching football ON TELLY as opposed to at the grounds themselves then? Or perhaps a bit of both? I hope so.

I would like to know what teams it is possible to see at short notice in case my dad ever comes. I mean in real life, not on the telly. QPR? Charlton?

Take him to a non-league game, Peej. Easier, cheaper, more fun, less annoyment. Seriously.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

I mean a bit of both, Steve. It's an all-purpose football-watching thread.

I'd imagine it's possible to see most non-Premiership teams at fairly short notice. Probably the likes of Charlton and Fulham as well, if you go in with the home fans.

I'll give you cheapness... (xpost)

Arsenal v Chelsea reserves at Underhill (Barnet) on 3 Oct anyone? (Not certain I can make it yet though). Free!

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

He sees a lot of non-league, Markelby. I was hoping to give him a bit of glamour. Or give me a bit of glamour, more to the point.

I would like to see those reserves, but it is a Monday, so perhaps not worth the seventeen hours travelling from Maidenhead.

ok!

My next planned matches:

Tue Aug 23rd 7.45pm Millwall vs Bristol Rovers (2 definites and 1 probable coming with me so far, 2 of that 3 ILXers)

Sat Sep 3rd 3pm Orient vs Bristol Rovers (I may be alone for that - anyone know if they've rebuilt their ground yet? It was half missing last season)

A reminder about tomorrow! I'm not 100% sure I'll be up to it, but I'm pretty determined.

Bugger. Millwall 2 Rovers 0. Not a terrible display, but I guess they were the better side. First goal scored by Barry Hayles, formerly a Rovers star. I was reminded of my favourite chant, when fans think a player may be exaggerating an injury, "Let him die, let him die, let him die..."

Very annoying couple behind me, who talked constantly, in fairly loud rasping tones. Representative sample:
Him: They're trying to claim a corner.
Her: They're trying to claim a corner. They're trying to claim a corner. But they kicked it out. They kicked it out. It was them that kicked it out. Millwall kicked it out. They can't claim a corner. They kicked it out. They can't claim that.

She also seemed sure that the nickname for our player Ryan Williams is 'Ryan-o', which surely can't be right.

Ah well: previous times I've visited the New Den, Rovers lost 3-0 both times.
