I command you to brush once a day!

I am Ytraxor of Graztork, new ruler of earth. In order to conserve resources, each puny human will make the following decision:

A) To brush the teeth once in the morning, leaving the house with clean breath; or

B) To brush the teeth once before bed, thus killing the mouth germs before 8 hours of sleep.

Mouthwash has been abolished. Once the decision is made, it is irrevocable and must be practiced 'til death. Thank you.

Ytraxor of Graztork, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

morning, obviously.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

So what happens when you say your name backwards?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

I brushed my teeth four times yesterday. I was excited about my new toothbrush.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Morning. Maybe once a week or so, I can't be arsed to brush before bed, but I always have to brush in the morning or else my mouth will feel gross all day.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

The no mouthwash ruling is pretty harsh. I would miss the sweet, sweet burn of Listerine.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

But most of the damage is done at night, when your mouth is closed. During the day, you drink things that wash the bacterium away.

Listerine rules. None of that pussy, minty piss for me thank, give me that cool eucalyptol-chemical taste.

andy --, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Flossing is far, far more important to maintaining healthy teeth & gums than brushing is.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

I rarely floss, I can't get it through without shredding it. And the blood! The BLOOD! I'm going to start today, though.

andy --, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Okay, so I saw a bit of Dr. Phi1 yesterday and there was a woman on who was afraid to go to the doctor, namely b/c in the past doctors had been unable to cure her thrush - after many months she went to the dentist and he told her to change her toothbrush and voila, thrush gone. But wtf is up with people not changing their toothbrushes more often?! You STICK IT IN YOUR MOUTH every day. And they only cost $3 or less. Rant over.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Ahem. AHEM! - I have the most expensive set of mandibles, due to fillings/root canals/etc. - on ILX. Two thousand dollars later - and they want me to get braces.Again.

Death to Ytraxor! Who's with me??!? Oh. [slinks away]

Aimless (Aimless), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Isn't brushing before you sleep much beter for the teeth/gums than in the morning?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

I guess so, but imagine a bus full of morning commuters who haven't brushed.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

A friend's father, who is a dentist, said that it's easier on the teeth/gums if you brush with a mix of cold and warm water rather than straight-up cold. It works!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

"... a mix of cold and warm water..."

Isn't that just "lukewarm"?

andy --, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

i brush at night, after me shower

kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

heh. the title of this thread reminds me of some sorta ad campaign aimed at kids. It would have a tooth with eyes & a mouth, a crown, and a demanding look. There would be stickers, and the tooth could wear a cape.

The CAVITY CREEPS recommend brushing in lukewarm Mountain Dew twice a month.

andy --, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Right, so who is this Ytraxor of Graztork, and who made him (her?) Overlord of the Universe?

*an aide hands me the relevant declaration* Never mind...

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

The CAVITY CREEPS! They also recommend using licorice for a toothbrush.

xpost - "mix of warm and cold", yeah yeah, "lukewarm". I was thinking all literally, with the warm tap on and the cold tap on, producing a blend of the two in a steady stream of water, under which one could run one's toothbrush and proceed with the toothbrushing experience. I also like the word "tepid."

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

c/d: those red chewable tablets you got to show where you hadn't been brushing.

usually were given to you right after you got braces.

kingfish completely hatstand (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Never heard of those before.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Those red tabs were guilt-pills. They proved what a shitty brusher you were.

"WE MAKE HOLES IN TEETH, WE MAKE HOLES IN TEETH..."

andy --, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

Never heard of those before.

really? oh man, they were some bad memories from the age of 13.

kingfish completely hatstand (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

I guess so, but imagine a bus full of morning commuters who haven't brushed.

brushing doesn't do much to combat bad morning breath. you'd be better off just shoving a bunch of altoids or gum in there.

seriously, people, if at all possible brush after every meal. Floss once every day. And bacteria on the tongue (primary cause of bad breath) can be eliminated with a $1.37 plastic tongue scraper.

Bad oral hygeine is something I will not abide. And neither should you, Stinky.

captain cavity, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

"a $1.37 plastic tongue scraper"
