What is the most rubbish Oregon county?

I have little experience here. But in case I find myself in Oregon for an extended period of time...

There might be many to choose from; there might be none to choose from!

School me.

I know I can count out almost all of the northern counties, for at least being near the Columbia river.. (Multnomah being the least rubbish, for many obvious reasons). I can count out almost all the coastal counties, because the Oregon Coast is awesome -- even though Newport is a bit, well, dumpy. I can count out Jackson county for Ashland alone (or is Ashland in Klamath county?). Whichever county has Crater Lake can't be rubbish, nor whichever county has Bend and the surrounding mountains.

(and of course count out the county with Eugene in it.)

ashland, medford, grants pass... DUD DUD DUD

the happy smile patrol (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

The I-5 from Ashland (actually, from Mt. Shasta) to Portland is one of the great drives until you get to the very boring stretch between Eugene and Portland.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

ashland and medford are jackson county btw

the happy smile patrol (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

What county is Salem in? Is there anything else in that county?

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Aw, why the hate for Ashland? It's pretty. :( (I won't defend Medford or Grants Pass)

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Ashland has some of the best restaurants.. excellent places to get breakfast. The hotel.. the Shakespeare thing..

Malheur county is pretty desolate, and the name means something like "bad hour".

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

Get away from the I-5 corridor and things are...different.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

Ashland is excellent.

I'm going to make a shout out for John Day county, even though I've never been there.

Washington county contains:
* Banks
* Beaverton
* Cornelius
* Durham
* Forest Grove
* Gaston
* Hillsboro
* King City
* North Plains
* Sherwood
* Tigard
* Tualatin

...and thus I suspect it's the county I'd least want to live in. But they do generate some moneys, which is nice.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

(A few bits of Portland are in Washington county, too, but not the fun bits.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm guessing you'd rather live in most of those places than, say, Roseburg or Salem, though. (I stress "I'm guessing")

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, I meant Malheur county. There is no John Day county. Everything else is named after John Day, though.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Harney County. 10,000 square miles, 7,000 people. Ugh.

Clackamas is the best county because it's got both the apex (Canby) and the zenith (Oregon City).

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

If you get just outside of some of those towns, though, the rest of the county is nice. There doesn't seem to be much pleasant nonsuburban Washington Co.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Oregon City is both zenith and nadir. I was going to say that but screwed it up.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

i live in multnomah, drive to work in washington

word has it that the washington county lock-up is MUCH better than multnomah's.

just sayin', is all.

also, a few bits of Hillsboro/Wash Co is trying to do some mixed-used pedestrian-based environments. They barely ring some of the bedroom communities, but it looks like someone is trying a little.

Well in five years I'll reevaluate.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

the Raunchy Young Lepers are products of Washington County... judge accordingly.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

hmmm. probably a good idea. we will see, indeed.

Crack-a-my-ass County

righteousmaelstrom (righteousmaelstrom), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I think the last thing the world needs is another RYL, though! Washington Co. has acheived its destiny, there is nowhere to go but down from there.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I'd go with Gilliam, for Wheeler at least has some fossil beds. Gilliam's almost empty of people, but also practically devoid of interest. OTOH, even the worst counties in Oregon have some small redeeming quality - even the most desert ones.

Aimless (Aimless), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

yeah even the worst oregon county is better than any washington county (except king co.), but still we have to choose one right aimless?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 22 September 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Even San Juan County? (The frickin' San Juan Islands!)

Clallum County? (Port Townshend, Sequim)

I think Thurston County's got some stuff going on too (*beat up by jess immediately*)

Otherwise, yeah, WA state counties <<<<<< OR counties overall. I mean Garfield county.. Klickitat county.. yeesh.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Thursday, 22 September 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

I also gotta rep for Pierce county too.. there's some interesting stuff in Tacoma.. Steilacoom is really purty as well. (Never mind Fife)

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Thursday, 22 September 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

eff a San Juan Islands. washington can suck it.

The Obligatory State Rivalry Guy (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Whichever county Roseburg is in gets serious demerits, but then it gets the points back for the gorgeous drive along between Roseburg and Crater Lake.
I'd have to vote for Crook County on this one. Though apparently there's money to be made in Prineville real estate at the moment.

willpie (willpie), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Wait a second, are you moving to Oregon, donut?

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

No! I just wanted to be polite and go up the west coast before I started the eventual "What is the most rubbish Washington county?".. which I'll start now.

donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh, that's going to be an easy one. Tee it up.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

What is Klamath Falls like? Looks like i might be staying over there en route...recommendations?

Filey Camp, Sunday, 6 April 2008 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

ALL OF THEM.

Abbott, Sunday, 6 April 2008 17:51 (eighteen years ago)

Please y'all go on thinking Oregon is mostly rubbish, the less people who move here and find out about it the better.

sleeve, Sunday, 6 April 2008 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

KFalls?

MALHEUR CO. BLAMES THE GOPHERS

Mackro Mackro, Monday, 7 April 2008 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

Clackamas County full of fun.

kingfish, Monday, 7 April 2008 08:20 (eighteen years ago)

Ask around for how to get to the waterfalls. Go on, ask around. The locals love that.
