Apple's iSIGHT camera doesn't work on my parents laptop. BUGGAH

Not sure how to explain this but I'll try anyway. I know the problem has little/nothing to do with the camera itself. I thought it maybe had to do with the Firewalls so I tried to get most of the ports open but that didn't work either. So I'm wonder HOW IN THE HELL I AM GOING TO DO IT. My iSIGHT camera works fine, but theirs doesn't. They use an airport but how can I check the settings? Or can it be their provider who doesn't let them stream audio/video? I suggest they check with the Apple store but I doubt they can really help as the problem...

Also, I'm an idiot. I do know what DMZ means now.

(And yes I checked most Apple forums, but either they talked in a different language or they didn't know themselves or they had a different modem or they still used Panther or...)

I also predict that this thread will have only me going completely mental.

Can they get a picture locally with the iSight?

Yes, no problem. This is why I know it's not the fault of the camera itself. :-(

If it's not the local firewwall; Is their ISP blocking any ports?

Ed (dali), Friday, 23 September 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Shit, how do I find that out?

Might say in the support section of their website.

Ok. I'll ask'em to check. Would port forwarding work with this?

You need a shitload of ports open, especially these:
5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5678

More here.

does it work if you turn the firewall off entirely? (Safe enough on Macs)

Aah I didn't think of this! See, I'm dumb. I'll try that.
