Breadcake?

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Yorkshire oven bottom muffin.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

...say 'Yorkshire oven bottom muffin' five times, quickly.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Why? Will the Candyman come?

Egg and bacon roll.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

Ken, even by your standards that is an awful joke.

Bacon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sausage >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Egg

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Bacon (no fat), chewy roll, potato scone. Breakfast bliss.

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

Of course, a square sliced sausage is a different matter altogether!

Ha ha, you've found the same website as me - and what a website!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

Actually it was from somewhere else (I just image searched for plain bread) but I'm going to look at the site you found now.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

Everyday I wake up in tears realising I will have to get thru another day without eating any plain bread

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

Mmmmm - I am heading to Asda to pick up those very ingredients tonight. Sliced Square Steak Sausage, and oh those lovely buttery-tasting potato scones.

C/D - A full breakfast fry up as an evening meal?

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

You can sometimes find it in the Irish section in supermarkets down here. I can get some every other month, usually. (See also tattie scones) xpost to Dadachappie

Still trying to find bridies online.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

Bacon, Sausage (preferably square) and Hash Brown roll wil Brown Sauce.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

When I was in Edinburgh with Nick and H. I was on a mission for the double-decker Scottish toast loaf (which is what I call it). I also recall seeing something which was called a Stottie there which is like a (Sheffield colloquialism) breadcake.

Dada, plain bread Scots-style is avalable at the big Islington branch of Sainsbury's.

Ah, must investigate!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

Pie derail.

Shipping surprisingly affordable.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

I want Lasagne pie now!

Guilty Boksen (Bro_Danielson), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

Ahhhh - the Macaroni Pie. Once a staple of mine.

Last week I had a Bells Mince Round - I remember enjoying them as a child, but I was rather disappointed by the amount of fat that leaked out. They were much better in my day.

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

Is the Lasgne pie as good as it sounds?

Given the accepted premise that you can make anything better by sticking it in a pie?

Guilty Boksen (Bro_Danielson), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

I've never had lasagne pie, so can't comment, but I GREATLY DESIRE MACARONI PIE. Slightly disappointed there's no bean & potato pie in their selection, that would have tipped me over the edge and had me ordering already.

As it is, I think I need to find some other people who want half a block of square sausage, balck and white puddings before I take the plunge.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone had the Rainbow Roast, which is under the Something Different link on the site? (it's here: http://www.scotsmeat.com/acatalog/Bert_Fowlie_Butchers_Something_Different_2.html)

Is it as astonishingly rich as it sounds?

aldo, I may share an order with you!

Guilty Boksen (Bro_Danielson), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

Sounds good, but sounds like a Fowlie special so unlikely anybody's tried it.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

Bacon, egg, Warburtons Super Toastie King Of Breads.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

white bloomer, bacon, sausage, HP sauce and a cup of builders' tea for me, please.

sfxxxx, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

x-post

I think it would be tastier sans the pesto sauce.

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Three pieces of smoked bacon, on bloomer toast with mayonnaise and either ketchup or Trucklements onion marmalade.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

How have I missed this? Is it available in supermarkets?

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Wow, I'm off to Lochwinnoch to buy stuff. Mmmm. (I could just go to Glasgow, but Lochwinnoch is nicer).

Well-fired roll + butter + square sausage + tomato ketchup = nummylicious.

Last week I had a Bells Mince Round - I remember enjoying them as a child, but I was rather disappointed by the amount of fat that leaked out. They were much better in my day.

The mister bought a Bells steak pie for our tea the other night when I was all full of the cold and couldn't be arsed cooking. It was minging. I seem to remember them being good as shop-bought pies go, but this was all grey and horrible and gristly.

Aulds savoury pies however (mince, beans, mashed potato'n'cheese topping) = great (I work upstairs from Aulds the bakers therefore am somewhat of an expert on their savoury produce)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh wow, that link aldo posted to up there deliver butteries. Proper Aberdeen butteries, not the mank they sell in Tesco.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Pop in and see my sister while yer there!

This explains why I am looking for an excuse to order from them.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Roll with Bacon and Black Pudding with Brown sauce, and a mug of tea.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeuch. I hate bacon, black pudding, brown sauce and tea. I am the anti-Billy.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

If you lived in New Jersey, you could have Pork Roll, egg, and cheese on a hard roll and then you would know for sure.
Viva pork roll!

willpie (willpie), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

my bacon

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Yeuch. I hate bacon, black pudding, brown sauce and tea. I am the anti-Billy.

You'll still have the roll though?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

You have two slices of Stornaway black pudding on the outside and slices of Bury on the inside, hey preto: Black Pudding Sandwich.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

is black pudding good? it sounds grodey

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Yes, plain roll would be about it from that lot. Sorry. Black pudding sandwich = yukkiest thing ever. Mandee, it involves BLOOD. Avoid.

My mate's latest favourite thing is a roll and pie (as in a Scotch pie in a roll). I must go and have one for my lunch tomorrow...

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

black pudding is great and there are lots of regional variations. Stornaway has added oats so it has a sturdy consistency, Bury is in little loops and quite soft. Very tasty stuff.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

My kingdom for a good pie!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Revive, because I finally decided to order and it came yesterday. I now have a freezer full of fantastic stuff.

Their butteries are unbelievably good.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh man I should not have read this thread

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 October 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

That list in full:

3 x lasagne pie
2 x macaroni pie
2 x stovies pie
2 x mince and mealie pie
2 x chicken and mealie pie
2 x haggis pie
2 x Scotch Mini Roast
10 x white puddings
24 x butteries
1 kg black pudding
1 kg square sausage
2 kg Italian Lorne
10 x pork & black pudding burgers
10 x stroganoff burgers

In my defence, Jeff is taking some away with him tomorrow, so it's not all for me.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 28 October 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

OMG Stroganoff Burgers??? Mmmmm....

What have you tried so far?

Rumpie, Friday, 28 October 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

Nothing except the butteries. I had an urgent appointment in the pub last night which meant I didn't do much more than cut up the square sausage and the black pudding.

Luckily, because of the immensely high fat content Scotch pies freeze really well.
