Danish Pastry vs Doughnut vs Strawberry Tart

I'd rather have the Danish Pastry. Especially if it's of the strawberry variety.

But it depends what's in the Danish pastry. Maybe if it had strawberries and cinnamon, then it would be like all three in one and triply yummy. But then again, bad luck comes in threes so maybe not.

But then again, we are not at all superstitious. The royal "we".

I prefer the texture of a Danish Pastry. As for strawberry tarts, I'll happily eat the filling but the case itself is pretty rub.

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

donut, of course. what kind of question is this?

But one's elevenses, one's afternoon snack and one's dessert! Apples and oranges people!

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

NB I'm not advocating the eating of fruit

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

Now which is which?

I wonder if such a thing as a Marmalade Breakfast Danish has been invented.

Probably.

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

I would say doughnut because you can get bad danishes and bad strawberry tarts but I've never had a bad doughnut. Unless by bad you mean 'likely to block your arteries with sweet sweet fat until you die'.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

I once had a bad doughnut. It was on a GNER train from London to Edinburgh and it had no jam in it.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

I've had a jamless doughnut too. I prefer ring doughnuts, they are less stodgy. Although the ones filled with apple and topped with icing and cinnamon are pleasant also.

Rumpie, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I would perfer unsweetened pasty products to the above three. If I had to choose, I would select the Danish from Denmark.

Why? The Danish excells at taste. The Donut is too bland, too American. The Strawberry tart is too conservative and has a wholly unsatisfactory pastry casing.

I'm guessing 'Ron' is short for 'Ronnoisseur'.

estela (estela), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Strawberry tarts, with synthetic cream for choice.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Strawberry tarts are lovely, especially home made ones, but they're so messy to eat. They always fall apart on me.

Doughnuts are too stodgy, but My Other Half has a penchant for jam-and-cream-filled doughnuts (the ones you buy frozen from Tesco, 6 for 99p) so we always have a supply of them in the freezer.

Danish pastries are too sweet for me, but I do like a nice Pain au Raisin with a cup of coffee for elevenses, now and again.
