Incredibly successful popular psychologist responsible for 'Thinking hats', Water logic, I'm OK - You're OK etc etc.

I have always assumed he is a total charlatan and his books are for simpletons. HOWEVER intelligent people keep citing him in meetings. Have I been wrong about him, or about them?

Depends on which thinking hat you're wearing.

"I'm OK, You're OK" is by Thomas Harris. Totally different sort of thing to de Bono, as far as I'm aware. So maybe your connecting him with Transactional Analysis (which isn't utter nonsense but was over-trendy and misunderstood) has put you off him. A friend whose brain I have the utmost respect for used to read de Bono and said he was good.

Derided in How Mumbo-Jumbo Conquered the World, which I'm half into and loving.

(transactional analysis was a respectable academic approach to psychological/sociological analysis that was oddly adopted by the "7 steps to success" school of business advice. i even found a dumbed down version of it in a pizza hut employee handbook!)
