Well obviously the cloying language on the website is a big dud...

But beyond that, have any of you had good or bad experiences with this? Advice?

Have AirTran's airplanes stopped spontaneously combusting?

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Their safety record, especially since the switch to Airtran, certainly isn't any worse than almost any other carrier. If you want something to intimidate you before the next time you fly, check this out:

http://aviation-safety.net/database/dblist.php?Year=2005

That's a list of every aviation incident in 2005. Its epic in length.

eek, remind me not to take a flight in the D.R. Congo....

thanks, you assholes are a lot of help

Well, its like flying standby anywhere else. If you get on a plane, you get on a plane. If you don't, you gotta wait till the next one.

Are you a north american citizen, BTW? If not, you can always look into many of the passes that are set up by airlines in the US to encourage foriegn travel to smaller locations. OneWorld (which has Delta and Northwest and several other airlines) features such a pass.

I love the 18-22 age restriction. "You can do this if you're in college, or whatever. But not if you're actually poor. You hear me? No poor adults, we're not having that."

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

i've used it a bunch of times, it's awesome!!! but hurry up, only three more months!!!!

CUT MY LIFE INTO PIZZAS ;_; (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

yep, I'm 'merican. Thinking of trying to go from ATL to NYC. Sorry I called you an asshole, Alan!
Pizza, are you talking about the 12/15 cutoff, or are they stopping it altogether?

emilys. (emilys.), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

In defense of Airtran, Nabisco, they're not exactly the most expensive airline to fly to begin with. Its just a move to try and build up some status among young adults, with the hope that once they become the business traveller of the future, they'll pick Airtran. After all, business travellers are the bread and butter of the industry.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

eh, poor adults don't have time to travel anyway, nabisco. And they're so provincial anyway.

emilys. (emilys.), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

pretty sure they're stopping it altogether - i first used it in 2003 (atl to jersey city, ha) after I'd turned 18, and they had the same date up.

Emilys:

If you don't particularly care when you leave either location, you can always try priceline.com. At least then you'll show up to the airport with exact times and be able to work on your trip planning from there. www.biddingfortravel.com can give you a host of tips. And if you're booking a hotel, you DEFINITELY want to try out Priceline. I grabbed the Holiday Inn Bloomington when I went to Minneapolis about 2 weeks ago for only $43 a night, when the price on their website was closer to $85. I've been able to grab up a host of downtown 4-stars real cheap with it (if you're gonna be staying in downtown, people on biddingfortravel seem to be having luck getting the Marriott Marquis and Omni for about $55-60 a night).

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

shit, I'll be crashing if I go, but thanks for the advice! Your use of the noun "host" (twice!) is quite charming.

emilys. (emilys.), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)
