...somebody, of course. Right now it's seen as a race between Blunt and , both of whom don't thrill a variety of people even as Blunt is declaring a victory before the vote. After Pence dropped out, the activist wing started talking up Shadegg, who by all accounts is thinking about it. RedState endorsed him today, doubtless others are thinking about it or will follow. Post all hoo-hah you like here.

Whoops, one of my candidate links died in the ether -- the other declared candidate is Boehner.

Poor Dreier. Too well-dressed and "Californian" for these people.

They eat their own. Also, this:

We're hearing that a senior House Republican is on a tirade about Blunt holding onto his whip position while also running for majority leader. There's a possibility he will make an impassioned plea for new leadership elections from the bottom up when the Republican conference meets on Wednesday. If he does and his colleagues find it persuasive, it could mean that the majority leader election planned for the next day, Feb. 2, could be put off as the other races get underway.

The new leader: it's Boehner. I may actually start watching the news again just to hear my favorite newscasters say "boner."

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Saturday, 4 February 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

The official pronunciation rhymes with "vainer," but I'm sticking with boner.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 4 February 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it seems to have come down to 'there's no way we can let Blunt win without making ourselves look even more like fools and Shadegg is too far right -- go for the lukewarm guy!'
