...in a two disc edition with Cox's adaptation of a José Luis Borges short story, which I've yet to see but have reasonably high hopes for.

Anyway, anyone wanna talk about this movie? It features Joe Strummer and the Pogues and Courtney Love and Elvis Costello and Grace Jones and basically everyone else as well. It's a goofy-ass tribute to Leone style spaghetti westerns. Every line's a non-sequitor. It's generally nasty, sadistic and nightmareish. Some say the Sy Richardson character got ripped off wholesale for Samuel L. Jackson's character in "Pulp Fiction" (dunno if I'd go that far, but I'd bet some $ Tarantino had at least seen the movie when he came up with the character.) Jennifer Balgobin is hott. And so on.

Jorge.

I have not seen this film, so cannot comment.

I got it free with a magazine about 2 years ago and still haven't got round to watching it.

I loved this movie when I was 15. I used to watch STH and Roadside Prophets (Beastie Boys meets X and play Easy Rider) about once a month.
Dick Rude's finest onscreen moments. Jim Jarmusch's best death scene. "Come on Norwood, not the suit."
SALSA Y KETCHUP!

I don't know if I'd want to see it today and have my teenage exuberance voided.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I got it free with the mag as above.

Enjoyed it. Yep.

On looking around, found nothing but hate for it.

And now, it's being issued as a 'deluxe', everyone rating it.

Fo Gigure.

it's okay. sy richardson is genius, strummer good, nice atmosphere and general anarchic charm but why oh why couldn't someone have drowned courtney love at birth?

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

the pogues... elvis costello... courtney love... see ya!

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:43 (twenty years ago)

What could be wrong with Cait O'Riordan singing "Danny Boy"?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I though Pinski meant "see ya!" as in, "I'm off to go watch this with great attention and affection."

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:46 (twenty years ago)

i have it on vhs! it's nutty.

Knute Rockne, All American (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:52 (twenty years ago)

This movie is lame as fuck. Spaghetti western should say it all.
Courtney is OK

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 10 March 2006 14:57 (twenty years ago)

hahaha, no huk.

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Friday, 10 March 2006 15:00 (twenty years ago)

i remember being so let down by this when it came out. i wanted more repo man, not a bunch of limeys. no offense, you bunch of limeys.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 10 March 2006 15:57 (twenty years ago)

It's actually a really great movie for Courtney-hatas! Her character is relentlessly obnoxious and irredeemable.

Before posting this thread I realised that "Joe Strummer + The Pogues" really isn't as much of a "OMG" proposition for certain sectors of ILX as it is to me. Oh well.

Huk, SALSA Y KETCHUP is the best! I have it stuck in my head.

And now, it's being issued as a 'deluxe', everyone rating it.

Hardly a deluxe d00d, the only special features ya get is, erhm, subtitles for the hearing impaired.

This movie is lame as fuck. Spaghetti western should say it all.

?_? These two sentences seem to contradict each other most vehemently!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 10 March 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Well, my version doesn't have the short story.

It does have the directors com and extras so ner should have bought the mag.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 March 2006 16:06 (twenty years ago)
