Ongoing saga, now what to do? The person with cancer mentioned to her daughter in-law (who works here)…”I don’t know why they don’t clean off my desk, I’m not coming back!” Meanwhile my direct supervisor (who covers for the accounting manager while she is out) gets more and more heaped on him, does not get compensated, more of his tasks fall on me. I want to make an ultimatum I want to be considered for FTE or I’m out. The problem again is the politics of being a temporary employee and (a)-losing my position if I don’t get FTE (b)-getting blackballed by the Temp agency because I stood up and asked for something. What would you do?

WHAT the fuck kind of temp agency do you work for that they would "blackball" you for not wanting to continue a particular assignment?? THAT'S WHAT THEY DO. THAT IS THEIR JOB. TO GIVE YOU TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT AND MOVE YOU AT WHIM. Why are you so convinced they're going to blackball you? Just freaking quit already and get a new temp job.

The temp agency that I work for would definitely blackball you if you did that more than a couple of times.

yes, the temp agency makes a fee for 'selling me' if it goes to FTE. they know this is emminent, they know the whole story, i am just getting impatient. there are no laws governing this hinterland that i know of

maybe they just don't want to hire you.

i got blackballed from one agency for making a sexual harassment complaint. their relationship with that client was more important than li'l ol' me, and they stopped calling me with assignments.

Is this the only temp agency in town? Can't you apply for other jobs anywhere else?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

my temp agency has a rule that if you're asked to do things not in your job description, you must get permission from them first. so, if you're being asked to take on a workload you didn't sign on for, talk to your agency and see if they can work something out with the company.

i was hired to do AR, now it's into reconciliations. the agency knows this. there are loads of other agencies, true, but i've stuck this out since Sept. If I get 400 more service hours i get some benefits, so it's worth sticking w/ this agency. i'm sure the client wants to hire me, they just can't come up w/the balls to cut the cord on this sickly employee (btw she retires 4/06). even if i get re-assigned the agency will earmark my file. as one who almost got hired but bailed and ask for re-assignment, thus not allowing us (the agency) to profit by his sales. (they already make $16.00 an hour profit on me, I've seen the bill)

I thought this thread was going to be about Abe Vigoda.
