I'm thinking The Crying Game is a good candidate — witness that espisode of the Simspons where Marge gets sent to jail.

But what other candidates are there? The Usual Suspects? Sixth Sense?

Citizen Kane - the sledge did it!
The Mousetrap, UK's longest running stage production (is it still going?) - the policeman did it! No really!

When A Stranger Calls

"We were able to trace the call... it's coming from... inside the house!"

I think the surprise ending of both the Usual Suspects and The Sixth Sense is "you have just wasted two hours of your life".

Never read Phillip French's reviews in the Observer. The bulk of them is often him recounting the entire plot, only stopping just before the climax, so a twist at the end of act two, for example, will be completely spoiled. Then he ends the review by telling you an 'interesting' fact about the cinematographer or something. He sometimes doesn't even say if he likes the film or not. Gah.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. If you were to know at the start that it was all a dream then the building suspense would be totally ruined.
