Where can I get rid of review copies of posh architecture books?

sorry to pose such a selfish question, but I've got dozens of heavy, architectural and design coffee table books I kinda purloined from the publishing house that made me redundant. I want to get rid of them for maximum profit and have no idea where to get shot of them. I've tried Waterstones and a second hand shop in Camden to no avail. Ebay or Amazon any good for this? Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

what are your books?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 16 March 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Damn, I was going to say GIVE THEM TO ME but then spotted the selling bit of it. Well, if you have any Victorian or Edwardian or even Art Deco era, I would probably buy them off you.

But errr... yeah. I know several people who have had success with stuff on eBay or Amazon, though Emsk would know more about this than me.

if you were in america i'd make you an offer for 'em. i know that's no help.

The best way to find out where to sell something is to find out where to buy it.

eBay?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:04 (twenty years ago)

You can score big on eBay if you're lucky enough to be selling it when people are looking for it...

Take Onimo's advice & do an internet search on the books to see who's selling them & for how much.

Remember you search eBay for completed listings to see how much they've sold for in the past.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:15 (twenty years ago)

... and if they aren't there, that may mean you could do well by selling them there.

Amazon sounds easiest, but watch out for big postal charges.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's the problem with hefty art books - you might be willing to pay a tenner, but when someone says "that will also be £439050842.47 postage" your interest can wane.

Any good Japanese ones among them? I may be interested and I live in London.

How about lisitng them here and we'll make offers? I'm always interested to buy these kind of things. What was the publisher?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 16 March 2006 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, thank you everyone. Most helpful! I shall check out Ebay and Amazon in more detail and for those that are interested, the books are A Century of Graphic Design by Jeremy Aynsley (Mitchell Beazley), Barbican: Penthouse Over the City by David Heathcote (Wiley), Skyscrapers by Anders Lepix (Prestel), Creative Advertising by Mario Pricken (Thames and Hudson), Street Logos by Tristan Manco (Thames and Hudson) Skateboard Stickers by Mark Munson and Steve Cardwell (Laurence King), some A5 size teNeues guides to Car Design and Sport Design and some cute little architecture city guides to Barcelona, Tokyo, Berlin and New York.

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:31 (twenty years ago)

For reference, some US prices:

$25 Century of Graphic Design by Jeremy Aynsley
$60 Barbican: Penthouse Over the City by David Heathcote
$25 Creative Advertising by Mario Pricken
$11 Street Logos by Tristan Manco

this one? not A5, though

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Yes that's one of the series of architecture city guides. The Barcelona and Tokyo ones are still in their plastic wrapping actually - they are about 5 inches square I reckon. The Sport Design and Car Design ones are A5 in size approx. Sorry for any confusion.

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I would read/look at them but, unfortunately, I don't think I would buy them

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Well the Barbican book looks excellent - £20 on Amazon - how much d'ya want for it? The Street Logos book is excellent but I already have it.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:30 (twenty years ago)

If you are selling rev copies to secondhand booksellers (they love this) there's always the MVE empire bookshop in W11 - they will pay you pretty good money for those but not equal cover value by any means. Maybe a third if you are lucky.
