A total of 17 Internet companies paid a pretty price -- $2.2 million for each 30-second commercial -- to advertise their wares. But by Super Bowl 2001, dot-com ads were even more scarce than Giants' touchdowns. I do remember that Super Bowl. There was one dot-com company that bought thirty seconds of a test-bar screen with a scroll at the bottom bragging about how much money they were wasting.
