AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Classic for leaning out your window and throwing an old boot at a cat.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Do you also wear a long nightcap with a little pom on the end?

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

best suited with caps

What an excellent idea.

Hello Cthulhu (kate), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:26 (twenty years ago)

"But, Spirit, are these scenes of what WILL be or what COULD be?"

Nick had one for ages; it made him look like one of the Lost Boys (JM Barrie not VAMPIRES).

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:28 (twenty years ago)

no, i wish i had a nightcap though!

i do also have a nice red one-piece thermal like:

http://afmo.com/images/products/R6453.jpg

complete with a buttoned butt flap.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

So, how's things in the fire department, then?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 18:56 (twenty years ago)

a little warm.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 19:50 (twenty years ago)

this is horrifying

geoff (gcannon), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)

er, takes all kinds, i mean.

geoff (gcannon), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 19:54 (twenty years ago)

andrew, no!

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:00 (twenty years ago)

it's me on the beach for my morning comb just this morning!

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:01 (twenty years ago)

I kinda like it. :-)

Hello Cthulhu (kate), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:04 (twenty years ago)

That dude needs a glass of brandy to make that picture complete. Maybe a candle snuffer.

phil d. (Phil D.), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:05 (twenty years ago)

what is this 'morning comb'?

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:05 (twenty years ago)

mine is a bit more mannish, it's a dark green plaid.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:07 (twenty years ago)

c.f. Do you use the terms feminine or masculine to describe people?

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:07 (twenty years ago)

He must be very careful as it stains very easily.

dr lulu (dr lulu), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:09 (twenty years ago)

I used to sleep in my grandmother's night gown when I was little, and I've been wanting to get a mens gown of my own lately. I'll get a solid, old-fashioned one complete with nightcap, none of that nu-age cheesy crap. AaronK, where'd you get yours?

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:10 (twenty years ago)

dudes winter is almost over

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm really not sure about this.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:24 (twenty years ago)

it could be adorable. except when they mean the picture upthread.

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

y'know, I don't think I'm into "adorable" men. Cute, sweet, but adorable? So yes, this is a very subjective subject. Pajama pants are cute+manly, a dress you wear to bed, maybe not so much.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

It's all about the comfort. The day someone designs a long dress intended for men, I'll be the first in line.

josh in sf (stfu kthx), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:40 (twenty years ago)

yikes. just yikes.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:41 (twenty years ago)

Actually, after thinking about it... I don't think a nightgown would be comfortable. I'm more into pajama pants and no shirt in bed.

But walking around, it would be comfortable. If I could get away with looking like Sunn 0))) in my daily life, I would be happy.

josh in sf (stfu kthx), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:45 (twenty years ago)

Jena, it was a gift, i'm not sure where from. i seem to remember a Ralph Lauren tag on the inside! i'll try to remember to check tonite.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:53 (twenty years ago)

okay okay, i see, if you were all scruffy and sufficiently hippie about it, like maybe you live in the middle of nowhere and cook your breakfast over an open fire, then I can see a long flannel shirt-like "nightgown" making some sense (and being kinda hott, but that's more about a combination of factors). still though.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:53 (twenty years ago)

i don't really care for hippies

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:59 (twenty years ago)

oh boy

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 21:04 (twenty years ago)

I think that I just got the meaning behind "My Morning Jacket", and let me tell you - not cool, guys. Not cool.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

it's LL Bean! apparently they dont have it in stock anymore.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 23:36 (twenty years ago)

but they're still to blame

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 23:39 (twenty years ago)

;)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 23:39 (twenty years ago)

Vermont Country Store has the nightcaps too.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 23:42 (twenty years ago)

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 23 March 2006 00:12 (twenty years ago)

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 23 March 2006 01:31 (twenty years ago)

NO! DUD!

youn, Thursday, 23 March 2006 02:56 (twenty years ago)

The matching nightcap is only with the irish flannel (page 2).

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 23 March 2006 04:40 (twenty years ago)

the matching nightcap is not helping anyone

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 23 March 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

also:
oh dear, seersucker...

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 23 March 2006 05:27 (twenty years ago)

The 'matching' nightcap doesn't match very well, I find.

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 23 March 2006 05:30 (twenty years ago)

DIDN'T TUOMAS HAVE ONE?

R.I.P. West Village Bird Shaman ]-`: (ex machina), Thursday, 23 March 2006 05:37 (twenty years ago)

The reason I don't like to where a nightie is it scrunches up in the night and I wake up with it up under my armpits. Do you chaps not have this problem?

Also, by golly, they are unsexy.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 23 March 2006 09:23 (twenty years ago)

where wear

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 23 March 2006 09:24 (twenty years ago)

I can't stand to sleep in boxer shorts, let alone some kind of fucking godawful dress.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 23 March 2006 09:36 (twenty years ago)

Avaialble in Warkworth...

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 23 March 2006 09:59 (twenty years ago)

I had one for ages. Very...er...accessible. Very comfy to wear around the house but the bunching up issue goes against them. A black one would be cool.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 23 March 2006 10:01 (twenty years ago)

My favourite night apparel...cheap, very comfy, suitable for lounging.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 23 March 2006 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Mine are not as grand as those though - just cheap cotton, and without the elongated sleeves.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 23 March 2006 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Classic

Dadaismus, the Male Poster (Dada), Thursday, 23 March 2006 10:32 (twenty years ago)

Her's one from Manufactum, which is sort of a way-upscale Vermont Country Store from Germany:

http://www.manufactum.com/mb3_media/8/570/4/1/0/39478.jpg

I actually kinda want one, if only because I have the inexplicable habit of ALWAYS removing my pyjama bottoms in my sleep. This can get nerve-wracking when you're visiting folks.

I have the inexplicable habit of ALWAYS removing my pyjama bottoms in my sleep

?!

Siggy Freud (Nick Southall), Thursday, 23 March 2006 11:25 (twenty years ago)

I said it was inexplicable. My wife SAYS it's not her.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 23 March 2006 12:03 (twenty years ago)

Ha! A friend says when his wife uses her pyjama bottoms as a not v. subtle signalling device. Off means it's on - on means it's off, if you get my meaning.

I love that top from Manufactum but it's £65 and that's reduced. I'll stick with my Delhi bought pyjamas (about £10 with trousers!).

Ned T.RIfle II (Ned T.Rifle II), Thursday, 23 March 2006 12:23 (twenty years ago)

yeah, sometimes it ends up around my armpits, but i sleep with my girlfriend, and this is not all bad, really.

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Surely these came about as a practical solution to somethin or other.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Nightgowns bunch, I learned this as a little girl wearing flannel ones (also, flannel sleepwear + flannel sheets = velcro!!). If the gown is long, you grab the hem between your toes and hold it in place around yr ankles as you slide under the covers. Otherwise you just have to straighten things once you lie down, and of course you can't toss & turn or you'll be wrung out like a human dish towel by morning.

Also if you stand on the heating grates in the morning the hot air makes yr nightgown puff up like a giant bell!

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Also, if you wear a man-made-fibre nightie, you can pull it over your bent knees, then straighten your legs really quickly and it lights up!

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

You know what, fuck practicality

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:40 (twenty years ago)

bunchy nightclothes are the worst! my mother bought me an ankle-length flannel lanz nightgown many years ago, and no matter how carefully i would adjust before i went to sleep i'd start awake in a panic feeling throttled.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Lauren, those are precisely the ones we had, too! Either that or floor-length ones my mom made. Yes, my parents are pioneers! In the fall we thresh our grain and then use the stalks to feed cattle! And then we butcher a pig and make headcheese...at our big house in the little woods.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

yup. those things are seriously laura ingalls wilder. extreme nightgown discomfort was never mentioned in the books, though. i suppose they were too busy worrying about blizzards and savages.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

AND COLD. Say what we may about silly old nightgowns, they are WARM.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

indeed. nothing like waking up in a sweat on december morning!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 March 2006 14:55 (twenty years ago)

They're bunchin' up, sweat-absorbing cumrags, made for an earlier period when there was a distance to travel between rooms for bathing and sleeping. Now many of us have a bathroom as an adjunct of the bedroom. This has rendered them void. No excuse.
