Retro... Party? Lighting

This is the best way of describing what I'm trying to find:

A machine that can be used to make the same sort of "amoeba" style light patterns that I'm familiar with through videos of the Velvet Underground playing at various Warhol functions.

I'm just not sure what to look for, and whether or not this is something I can still find.

I'm really not interested in the popular party lights that have, for instance, the colored circles about a ball with a light inside.

I'm imagining a much more dynamic and strange effect.

Get an old overhead projector, the kind once used in schools for transparencies. Take a shallow glass casserole dish, fill it with water, and put it on top. Then drip some food coloring in the water.

Right: add oil to create the blobby amoebic effects.

I have one called the Groove Wheel that mimics the Avalon Ballroom San Francisco kind of look... I bought it for $100.

Ha, maybe I should add that the reason the Space Projector came to mind is that me and my old housemates once got our party 'busted' by some inept police officers - at the time they came round I was off my tits on acid staring at the pattern on the wall whilst listening to, yes, the Velvet Underground.

I would also reccommend the space projector thing that emil.y suggested
