do you need a nintendo DS if you already have other home consoles?

namely the gamecube? is there any point to getting a DS as well? and should one wait for the DS lite instead?

how do people get time to play handhelds cos im never gonna play a ds on the train in case i get mugged for it.

That happens pretty frequently actually! Mainly iPods though, not video game consoles (think about it, they'd have to rip the player out of your hand while a lot of people throw their iPods in their purse or pocket, easy to snatch and just yank off).

Well I don't really understand that either, how they don't get the living shit beat out of them pulling stuff like that (note: almost every story I've heard about this being done is teenage criminals, a LOT of them girls, so I don't think I'd be v. scared of them)

Definitely wait for the DS lite. We have one in the office. It's much better in everyway..better D-pad, buttons, bigger stylus....also the screen is truly backlit, not sidelit like the original hardware, plus the white DS lite looks really nice, iPod-esque.

There are a bunch of great games on the DS...the new Tetris DS is beautiful, so is Super Princess Peach, Advanced Wars, a bunch of others...it's a different experience than the home consoles. I've heard the new Super Mario Bros. game coming out soon is great as well.

I have a Gamecube and a DS and I play the DS way more. I can play it in bed, lying on the couch, on the tram to work. Also, GBA games man! Minish Cap!!!
