Esoteric Printing (For Fun & Profit)

So I am wanting to do a small run of artwork for an EP, but most of the printers we've looked at seem to be baffled by anything other than letterheads and business cards.

What we'd like to do is print metallic ink onto dark textured card, which from research looks like it would need to be silk-screened or foil-inked, but these pretty much remain a mystery to me (well, I have a bit of a handle on silk-screening). For comparison, we want something akin to some of the Constellation/Kranky releases.

Does anyone know of any printers we could use to do this? The ones we've talked to so far have all been unable to achieve this.

(Alternatively, how much money/effort would be required to do this ourselves? We're only aiming for a run of about 200 copies, which I guess could make it prohibitively expensive)

You can buy a home silkscreen kit for about $100. You can buy metallic ink for less. You could print hundredz if you did it yourself. Home silkscreening is never anywhere near as good as professional silkscreening, though. There are some cheap silkscreeners in Brooklyn and LA.

This was the first place to come to mind: http://www.harringtonandsquires.co.uk/index.html
I've seen their work and it's great, however I think they specialize in letterpress, and if you know for sure you want silkscreen...I'm not sure what to recommend, other than looking at ads in the backs of print trade magazines etc. which is what I would do.

See also: http://stbride.org/ if you have time and inclination, they will have all the trade mags out for open browsing.

Stumptown in Portland, OR are lovely. I didn't use them in the end as shipping to the UK turned out to be too beacoup, but the samples they mailed over (at their expense) were great and their email responses were quick, detailed and clear.

Even if you don't use them for the printing, they will sell you pre-folded card to print on.
