so i am doing a CV from a word template...

but in the employment history section (or whichever), i want to add more entries, but i can't figure out how! there's room for like five things (title, year, description), but how do i stick more in? i've tried cutting and pasting and stuff but that doesn't work!

thx!

not quite sure what you're problem is...i'm cutting and pasting just fine... which version of word? which resume template?

word office x
i forget the name of the template!

but basically i want to add more BOXES to this section! when i copy and paste it just copies the text in the boxes, not the boxes themselves, dig?

not really. what's wrong with copying and pasting the text from the boxes, then overwriting with new material?

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:03 (twenty years ago)

that's what i want to do!

but it just pastes over the existing boxes, rather than adding new ones!

my version is office 2003 for PC, not sure if the MAC version is different in this respect.

so this is from a template, not the resume wizard?

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:06 (twenty years ago)

yeah! i don't think i have the resume wizard!

if you dont mind me looking at your rez, send it over to me, and hopefully i can open it on my machine and try to see what's up!

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

you can block out the privy stuff of course.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:11 (twenty years ago)

here's the problemo:

i can insert cells in the table which is the "previous experience" section

but the section is structured like this:

JOB NAME (column break) YEAR
DESCRIPTION

so there's a row with two cells followed by a row with one long cell, as long as the two above it.

i can figure out how to add one but not the other!

Word is such a bloated piece of software.. Can you do it without a template? generally it's easier in the long run. just select all your text, open a new document, select "paste special" and paste in all your text by using the WITHOUT FORMATTING option. you may have to go back & delete the character for list-bullets and extra tabs.

then, finish typing the rest of your text in where you need to. just text and carriage returns.

then, save a copy.

then, select sections of text and apply formatting - list style, header style, etc. save with a different name. that way if everything gets fucked up you can always go back to your plain text version and start over.

i think that's what i'm gonna do dar1a! thanks!

dar1a g otm.

im not sure what's up s1ocki, in my version, these blocks are all entered into a single cell and there's no problem...

do you want to add another LINE or another CELL, and to the DESCRIPTION of a single job entry? or do you want to add an entire new entry?

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:20 (twenty years ago)

an entry new entry!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:22 (twenty years ago)

thank you for crashing just when i reformatted everything!

hugz,

ms

normally I wouldn't say "ditch it all & start over" but believe me I have tried in the past to use the Word templates as a shortcut and it always ended up taking more time than I ever thought it would. Word is soooooo touchy and does all sorts of automatic things that are annoying as hell and a pain in the ass to turn off/remove.

if you want to retry selecting blocks or table cells though, perhaps changing the "view" option to "print" or "outline" or whatever's different than what you have will let you select the entire block instead of just sections of it.

thanks duders. templates are just too goofy.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

yes, they're awful.
