Where the hell was this poll taken?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Dadaismus doesn't win £5 if he says the edmiston club.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I did see this story this morning and admit that I immediately wondered what Orange Lodges had been polled

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

linked to this on the Target 2006 thread also

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I know loads of rangers fans and none of them would ever support england. So I really don't understand where this poll would come from.
Scottish Conservatives Party Conference perhaps?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I imagine an awful lot of people who aren't interested in football must have contributed to this poll. Not a telephone poll was it? Telephone polls = totally useless

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Complete list of those who took part in the poll:

Alan Hansen
Ally Mccoist
Gordon Brown MP
Rod Stewart
Angus Muldoon
Jocky the terrier

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Coisty lies when he says he wants england to win.

If some Scots really do want england to win, then I blame the fact we don't play england every year. A younger generation have missed out on playing every year.

We must bring back the Home Tournaments competition NOW!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I'll bet Rod Stewart doesn't want England to win the World Cup! And Ally McCoist, certainly not!!

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

exactly, leaving the remaining 67%!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Actually, it's the other way round, young people are less likely to support England - in this most strange of polls

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Then that is very bizarre indeed.
Maybe they all realised since they've spent a lifetime supporting Labour to keep the union they may as well go the whole hog.

Anyway its time to bring back this game NOW!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:51 (twenty years ago)

This is no surprise. It was only about a month ago that Dadaismus and Ailsa repeatedly posted about how England were their second favourite team, and how John Motson's commentary was insufficiently patriotic.

Teh HoBBler (the pirate king), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:51 (twenty years ago)

A UK-wide sample suggests the majority will support England - with 76% of the Northern Irish and 83% of the Welsh backing Sven-Goran Eriksson's men.

I can't believe the welsh part is so high either.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

And the Northern Irish

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:53 (twenty years ago)

It would be funny if only 67% of the English wanted England to win
(the 33% of course would be housewives who are pissed off Eastenders and Coronation St get moved off schedule)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

i was gonna say, maybe 23% of the English actively don't want England to do well in the World Cup.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:05 (twenty years ago)

oof, i mean 33%

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:06 (twenty years ago)

That 33% would be the likes of Dadaismus pretending to be english when interviewed.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

The missing 10% are the ones who don't know what the World Cup is (it's actually probably more than that)

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

My English accent(s) are about as convincing as most English people's Scottish accent(s)

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:09 (twenty years ago)

Worse than Mel Gibson's Scottish?
Dick Van Dyke's Cockney?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:10 (twenty years ago)

No, not that bad!

Dadaismus Is A Very Magic Fellow (Dada), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:12 (twenty years ago)

Cockney = born within the sound of Brechin bells?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:18 (twenty years ago)

If we don't get National(English) tv coverage of the world cup on STV then we get Gerry McNee.
I'm watching the world cup with the tv on mute I think.

i'll probably watch the England games in a friendly pub and hopefully the noise from the clientele will drown out the commentary.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 31 March 2006 16:27 (twenty years ago)

I didn't even realise it was so bad even english supporters can't bear it!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 31 March 2006 17:05 (twenty years ago)

I eagerly await the first letter to the Guardian from someone in England saying either:

"I do hope England get knocked as soon as possible as I can't bear this terrible jingoism and xenophobia that NO OTHER COUNTRY in the World Cup ever suffers from"

or:

"I shall be supporting the team with the lowest GDP, as surely they have achieved more in qualifying than the overpaid primadonnas of the Premiership"

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 3 April 2006 07:33 (twenty years ago)

It was pointed out in the Daily Record on Saturday that perhaps the survey was carried out by people unaware of the sarcasm implicit in the Scottish use of the phrase "aye, right".

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:12 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to take this poll and balance it with the roar I experienced in a Glasgow pub when Beckham skied that penalty against Turkey in 2003. It was funny, mind.
