The TV series was called "Escape into the Night" and apparently is now on DVD, though only in black and white, whereas I believe the original was colour. I never saw it but I did see paperhouse which was not anything like as terrifying as the book.
I read it at that age where a boy wouldn't usually read a book with a girl's name in the title, perhaps I should have let it be. It scared the hell out of me. The whispers and the menace of boulders...who knew. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A14535209
