the book is GREBT -- v.v.scary -- and it is also the basis of a not-bad film called PAPER HOUSE

...and I thought you were going to post pervy dreams about our contralto.

the review of paper house sa that the telly version is truer to the book

yeah paper house comes adrift a bit at the end, gets more adventure thrillery and has "closure" -- the book is really very gentle and open-ended

also the releationship outside the dream is slightly differently set up i think

It wasn't the fact the rocks had eyes but the whispering that freaked me out when I read it.

Mind you, looking back, once they escaped by bike, why were they still scared? How fast can a huge boulder move?

it was one of my favourite books when i was a little girl. i have thought about it quite a bit recently- i'd like to read it again. i remember the tv series being very good as well.

three years pass...

The TV series was called "Escape into the Night" and apparently is now on DVD, though only in black and white, whereas I believe the original was colour. I never saw it but I did see paperhouse which was not anything like as terrifying as the book.

I read it at that age where a boy wouldn't usually read a book with a girl's name in the title, perhaps I should have let it be. It scared the hell out of me. The whispers and the menace of boulders...who knew.
