the only way to access listings on them appears to be: buy a subscription to the paper magazine. but if i've got the paper magazine i don't exactly need the website now do i?

aka "here is the thread where you complain about Time Out and its 'web presence'"

you need the website if you don't have the paper magazine in front of you

You get to read about pirates.

And comment on Marcello's controversial Nelly review.

Why buy Time Out London for listings when The Guardian Guide and The Independent The Information are available each Saturday.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 23 July 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

But all the listings are on line now - here's today's music in London.

I'd quite like to be able to just buy The Grauniad Guide without having to buy the Grauniad with it.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 23 July 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

the awesome reviews obv.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:12 (nineteen years ago)

i remember being barked out of London newsagents for lingering too long with an open copy of Time Out. surely a free web site undermines their barking somewhat? in NYC, on the other hand, no one ever gave a fuck, yet all their stuff lies behind a subscription wall

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 24 July 2006 09:04 (nineteen years ago)

i used to do that all the time. wh smiths or whoever rarely give a flying one, but small ones hate it.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 24 July 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

"this isn't a library!"

Tracey, it's all about BRAND RECOGNITION.

Henry, this is my favourite review. Can you guess who TE is?

very stirring.

Who the hell died and made you a reviewer?

You really don't want to know that.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

What a freak guy! Does he know anything about music? He is deaf as a post! 'Loose' is a great album and the charts are the evidence... This guy would better be working as an embroiderer. Shut your fingers, pal and try to listen for some music after writing another review... Thank you.

Who the hell died and made you a reviewer? It seems mr. reviewer that you haven't found your calling yet. I don't know what you were listening to but it couldn't be the same album that I have been listening to non-stop since I bought it on June 18th. That album is just what music needs right now something different, refreshing and just plain fun. I suggest that you find a new day job because you suck at this one!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

(I'm actually liking the Time Out readership base now. Amazing!)

Unprofessional review, throw yourself in a hole

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

You know, I didn't realize we were in 2nd grade? Then again, a 2nd grader with an admittedly broad vocabulary may have written the review anyway. I just think it's amusing that this reviewer did nothing but bash Nelly, for what reason I don't know. I will say that Nelly Furtado's album has been critically acclaimed and said to be the top-selling album of 2006, and naturally, I agree. I also agree that someone else should have done the review and "Marcello Carlin" should be fired. Not because of his opinion of Nelly Furtado, but because this review was an utter waste of time. Marcello, look for another job, maybe somewhere in the grave-digging industry. It seems that's all the excitement you can handle.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

are you going to quote all the comments?

your a prissy little british pussy and you know nothing
stop being an asshole and listen for once

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

As suggested by one of the posts, it's likely that many of these responses were fabricated by Geffen street teams, clearly insulted by what they saw as a knock on the head of the idea of record review as free advertisement.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

yes, but you were hired as a spoiler by a rival record company to smear the competition. it's a dirty world.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry but it's true, you're out of touch with ver kids these days.

Marcello, look for another job, maybe somewhere in the grave-digging industry.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

The fact that Nelly's PR people were too stupid even to utilise the wide open goal I left for them in that review indicates that maybe I should be doing their job.

Someone ought to, anyway...is it really the case that the album's sold only 6,000 copies in Britain?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

OR MAYBE THEY WERE REAL COMMENTS

DUM DUM DUMMMMM

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ The Unstoppable Troll Machine (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

what do they do if people only download a few tracks from the album on itunes or wherever? how do they tally that up with sales of the entire album?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

is this the rwanda bit?

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

I meant the "Loose is the best pop album of 2006" bit.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 24 July 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

"Unprofessional review, throw yourself in a hole" is my favorite of all of those replies.
