Breem.

I ate it last night. :-)

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

yea, bream

Tommy Woodry (tommywoodry), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

it looks exactly like a red snapper except it's not red and doesn't have a tail

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

red snapper, red mullet, bream (spelt it incorrectly earlier) and sea bass are all similar, but this is a bream. And a very tasty one.

Was it at a Greek restaurant (like mine) that you ate it, Ken?

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

ZOMG THANKS GUYS!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

How was it important and how does one get to eat an unknown fish? Did you catch it yourself, perhaps?

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

bream is kind of a generic term for a range of fish, is it not?

Tommy Woodry (tommywoodry), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

it's a black bream -(Spondyliosoma cantharus)

Porkpie (porkpie), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no! That's the lethal kind!

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ken?

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

Ken, by any chance, is that fish called to-mi (with an unaspirated t)?

youn (youn), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure I've eaten Black Bream! And although it wasn't poisonous it wasn't exactly delicious either. I like Bream in general though - one of those fish that you need to eat baked and served whole I think.

sea bream

did you eat the eyes? they're very delicious.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Sunday, 17 September 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

what is the tomatoey stuff? is it kim chee? is it cabbage and tomatoes? is it onions?

also, i have never personally bought a fish with eyes! or a head! except that time i got fresh caught salmon from nat1ve fisher friends and had to gut and scale it myself but those memories are safely blocked.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Monday, 18 September 2006 02:22 (nineteen years ago)

the tomatoey stuff was something random i conjured up with tomatos onions garlic tarragon and parsley + tobasco sauce! it was quite nice actually!

steve i totally ate the eyes. my flatmate took an mpeg of me eating it the last time.
