For anyone who actually wants to submit their 3.. I'm looking more for recommendations (or your personal favorites) rather than what you think are the best from a critical standpoint. So if you enjoyed a movie because it was really funny or entertaining, that's more along the lines of what I'm looking for. You know what I mean. I hope.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 02:03 (nineteen years ago)

What even came out this year? I can't remember anything.

Crank
Brick
Miami Vice

awful year for movies so far, but there are a bunch coming up that I'm looking forward to.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

Death of Mr. Lazarascu

Half Nelson

Volver

(Realism seems to rull in 2006)

emekars (emekars), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

Army of Shadows

(officially, at least)

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

Man, this is my worst moviegoing year since '02 if not, I dunno, the years where I wasn't even old enough to get into half the movies playing theaters. Picking three practically covers one-quarter of my entire viewing history this year.

Dave Chappelle's Block Party
The Death of Mr. Lazarescu
Miami Vice

The Black Dahlia could be an impersonal disaster of Untouchables proportions and it still could crack into that line-up.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 06:00 (nineteen years ago)

i have only paid to see two films in the kinema this year, so for me it's

'hidden' and
'miami vice'

so far.

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

I have been to NO MOVIES this year. I might finally go see A Scanner Darkly this week, but eh...

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

oh shit! i did see that. i have paid to see three.

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

any film not called 'A Scanner Darkly'

dave q (listerine), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

I can only remember seeing Garfield 2. It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

No Suntan, No Credibility (noodle vague), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

erm, I've only to my recollection seen 4: A Skanner Darkly, Hidden, A Cock And Bull Story and Syriana. Which one misses out?

I hate to say it, but Syriana does, because I enjoyed it the least. ACABS wins by a distance, though.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

on dvd i've seen maybe 6 or 7 films from this year. 'inside man' was the most entertaining.

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, I'm not gonna see A Scanner Darkly. It's only playing tonight and tomorrow and I'd rather watch the Warhol thing on PBS.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hidden, A Cock

Heh.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

"Hidden" is from 2005

emekars (emekars), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

I think my favorite so far is Conversations with Other Women. But I've seen alarmingly few.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

'13 (tzameti)'
'idiocracy'
'running scared'

gear (gear), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

I think my favorite so far is Conversations with Other Women.

I liked that, but I don't think I'd say much more than that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

i didn't like that.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

it hurt my eyes

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

anyway:

syndromes and a century
funky forest: the first contact
dave chappelle's

bottom 3:

lady in the water
wicker man
art school confidential

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

bump?

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 25 September 2006 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

The Black Dahlia could be an impersonal disaster of Untouchables proportions and it still could crack into that line-up.

-- Eric H. (ephende...) (webmail), September 20th, 2006 12:00 AM. (later)

i think you're underestimating just how skull-crushingly awful 'the black dahlia' is.

gear (gear), Monday, 25 September 2006 02:38 (nineteen years ago)

Syriana and A Cock & Bull Story are from 2005.

Slither is the only movie I found genuinely great. A Scanner Darkly and Pirates of the Caribbean 2 were alright.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 25 September 2006 02:41 (nineteen years ago)

oh wait imdb is a liar, A Cock & Bull Story didn't get a real release until January 2006.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 25 September 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

God, I really should go to the cinema more. Thus far my list looks like...

Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Snakes On A Plane
Superman Returns

...as these are the only three times I have been to the cinema this year.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 25 September 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

you get into deep water with the whole 'x was from 2005' BS. year it came to your country = year it came out.

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Monday, 25 September 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

I need to see a lot more movies. But I at least have a comfortable top 3 at the moment, which would be Brick, Half Nelson and Jackass 2.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 2 October 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

Children of Men
A Scanner Darkly

Er...

chap who would dare to contain two ingredients. Tea and bags. (chap), Monday, 2 October 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

Clean
Talladega Nights
The Science of Sleep

i wanted to love the science of sleep so, so much. but it will probably be replaced easily in the last few months of the year. such a bad year for movies so far.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

borat
descent
talladega

bottom 3

superman returns
my super ex gf
strangers w/ candy

and what (ooo), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

GRANDMA'S BOY

a naked Kraken annoying Times Square tourists with an acoustic guitar (nickalici, Monday, 2 October 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

bottom 3:

the black dahlia
renaissance
superman returns

gear (gear), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

superman returns was like finding out your ex had herpes

and what (ooo), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

i hated that movie so much

gear (gear), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

I choose 13 as my third.

chap who would dare to contain two ingredients. Tea and bags. (chap), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

Oh okay my PO3 I think is:

Grandma's Boy
The Descent
A Scanner Darkly

Can't wait til Borat opens here.

a naked Kraken annoying Times Square tourists with an acoustic guitar (nickalici, Monday, 2 October 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh cool, I'm watching Grandmas Boy tonight.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

Sherrybaby
Inside Man
L'enfant

Grey, Ian (IanBrooklyn), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

This is probably my worst moviegoing year since ... '78? Tho I have hopes for Borat, Science of Sleep and (guardedly) The Departed.

I really don't recognize the distinctions billstevejim lists at thetop, but I assume he's not looking for My Country, My Country, which would leave:

Kekexili (Mountain Patrol)
Battle in Heaven
4

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

man, '78 sucked.

the classic sounds of the seventh of january 1998 (Enrique), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

Police Beat
The Last Communist
Old Joy

Maybe Woman on the Beach, I'm not sure yet.

I agree w/ everyone that this year has been nothing but disappointing.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm intrigued. What happened in '78?

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't see as many in '78 as I have every year since (and i supect pinski is failing to be funny).. but Kaufman's Invasion of the Body Snatchers kicks the ass of everything I've seen this year. (hell, even Donner's Superman might.)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

I really don't recognize the distinctions billstevejim lists at thetop

For some reason the only example I can think of right now is Billy Madison.. it's fucking hilarious, but very much hated by people who take film seriously, because it really is a terrible movie. However, the funny parts (whether or not they're intentional) make it worth watching so many times.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

And at the time, I would have placed Billy Madison in my top 3 films of the year, over something like Forrest Gump.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 2 October 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

1. Sympathy For Lady Vengeance
2. uhh... I'll have to get back to you...

Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 2 October 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

there's honestly not that much i'm looking forward to this fall.

THIS IS THE SOUND OF RADIOHEAD BEING BEATEN AT A GAME THEY WEREN'T EVEN BOL (slu, Monday, 2 October 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

Dave Chappelle's Block Party
The Death of Mr. Lazarescu
Miami Vice

Insert Jackass: Number Two between Chappelle and Lazarescu.

The Black Dahlia could be an impersonal disaster of Untouchables proportions and it still could crack into that line-up.

It's not, but it doesn't.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 2 October 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

1. The Devil and Daniel Johnston
2. Descent
3. Running Scared

darin (darin), Monday, 2 October 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

Clean and The Science of Sleep are the only ones I've really enjoyed.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Monday, 2 October 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

and The Son.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Monday, 2 October 2006 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

Children of Men, Pirates 2, A Scanner Darkly.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 00:02 (nineteen years ago)

Lazarescu would be way at the top of my list if I hadn't seen it last year.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

"Hidden". "Children of Men". "Brokeback" which, i think/hope, will be usurped by Keane, when i finally see it.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
My new 3..

Borat
Half Nelson
Brick

In that order.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

i'm just such a big judd nelson fan yknow.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Having seen over 100 films in the cinema this year, there are plenty to perm: though currently my three would be
United 93
Grizzly Man
Crank

(Though Nacho Libre and Tideland are vying for that third spot).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Marie Antoinette
The Death of Mr. Lazarescu
The Inside Man

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

haven't been to cinema once in 2006.

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

This has been a good year for comedies.

diebold with a vengeance (nickalicious), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Crank three times in a row

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)
