Yeah, I've been reading about this.

From cyclingnews.com:

Mr. Landis had allegedly posted a message saying, "If he ever opens up his mouth again and the word Floyd comes out I will tell you all some things you wish you didn't know and I will have entered the race to the bottom and is now in progress."

Welcome to the world of professional cycling!

The reason why this story was brought into the testimony is because of events that seem to have transpired last night while LeMond was preparing to testify today. As he was returning to his hotel with his wife he said he received a phone call from a man claiming to be his uncle. Mr. LeMond said the caller said many things including, "I am your uncle and if you want me to finish this... We can talk about how we used to hide your weenie."

Floyd Landis has sacked his business manager after he threatened to expose the fact that Greg LeMond had been a victim of child abuse.

LeMond made the revelation on the fourth day of a hearing into Landis's positive test for testosterone after winning last year's Tour de France.

Will Geoghan implied he would reveal LeMond had been sexually abused as a child if he testified.

After the hearing, Landis's lawyer announced Geoghegan had been sacked.

I was absolutely shaken and shocked

Greg LeMond

LeMond, a three-time Tour de France winner, said he received the anonymous phone call the night before he was due to testify at the US Anti-Doping Agency hearing.

The 45-year-old said he then traced the call back to Geoghan.

"I thought this was intimidation to keep me from coming here," LeMond said.

"I was shocked, absolutely shaken and shocked. It was a real threat, it was real creepy."

Geoghan subsequently apologised for his actions, claiming he had acted "impulsively, after a beer or two".

In a statement, he added: "I apologise to Greg LeMond and his family for the distress I caused by my call.

"I also apologise to the arbitration panel and to Floyd Landis and his legal team for the distraction.

"I have been very angry about how unfair this whole proceeding is to Floyd, a great friend and a greater champion, and stupidly tried to take out my anger on Greg.

"I never thought about keeping Greg from testifying. If I had, I would have concluded that since Greg is such a fierce competitor, my stunt would likely make him more resolved to testify.

"What I did was wrong and very unfair to Greg. I am very sorry about and embarrassed by my conduct."

Meanwhile, five-time Tour de France winner Eddy Merckx has refused to testify at the hearing.

Landis won last year's Tour de France but faces a two-year ban if found guilty of doping at the hearing in California.

"I do not want to be mixed up in this. I have nothing to say and will not testify," said Merckx.

"I know nothing about this business and I therefore don't see in what way I can help clarify things."

Merckx's son Axel is a former team-mate of Landis while the 61-year-old was also an advisor to their Phonak Team.

Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone after he won the 17th stage of last year's Tour.

The 31-year-old, who has consistently denied using performance-enhancing drugs, could also become the first Tour winner to be stripped of his title.

The USADA hearing concludes on 23 May.

I don't really trust the French anti-doping agency.

How do they know Landis was the hacker? Couldn't it have been anyone?

He used stolen data during his appeal to the court, which may or may not be a crime in itself, plus they would obviously like to know how he got it at all.

Well that took long enough:

After four years of maintaining his innocence about doping charges that ruined his reputation and caused him to be stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title, the American cyclist Floyd Landis has sent e-mail messages to several cycling officials in the United States and in Europe in which he admits using performance-enhancing drugs for most of his career.

Two of those officials said that Landis’s messages provided a detailed description of doping that began in 2002, Landis’s first year alongside then-teammate Lance Armstrong. Both were riding for the successful but now-defunct United States Postal Service team. The two officials who received the e-mail did not want their names published, citing ongoing investigations, including by federal authorities, into the content of the e-mail.

In the messages, which were first reported by The Wall Street Journal, Landis accused other top American cyclists on the Postal Service team, including Armstrong, of using performance-enhancing drugs and methods. Other cyclists named were current United States road racing national champion George Hincapie, three-time Tour of California champion Levi Leipheimer and five-time United States time trial champion David Zabriskie.

You might be right there -- from NYT comments:

This guy took my hand, looked steadily into my eye and said he was a true winner. I donated to his cause as did many others. His lie to me is unforgivable. Now his lies can only remain lies.

--

I read Landis's book, Positively False, and I believed every word of it. To those that doubted him, I used his book to bolster his honesty and credibility. I can't even verbalize my thoughts about him now.

Etc. etc.
