it's so fucking funny. good times all around. teen sex comedy w/o any of the boring bits.

s1ocki, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

I just saw 'Knocked Up' (finally!!) today so YES I AM ANTICIPATING THIS LIKE I'VE NEVER ANTICIPATED BEFORE.

Roz, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

I thought Jonah Hill's (I had to look his name up on IMDB) character in Knocked Up was the funniest in the movie. So I is looking forward to this thing.

Drooone, Thursday, 2 August 2007 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

I suspect this is going to have a longer shelf life than Knocked Up (which was hilarious, but I'm not dying for the DVD release or anything).

this looks way better than "knocked up"

I'm going to see this right after work. I'm so excited. How great is Jonah Hill??

"I'm so wet!"
"Yeah, they said that would happen in health class..."

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

massively quotable movie. so so freakin funny. And with just the right amount of American Graffiti-style bittersweetness.

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

i was the guy in our theatre that laughed way too loud. it was too close to home hilarious a lot. freaks and geeks is an obvious connector, but it was like sixteen candles + animal house done by that crew of people.

msp, Saturday, 18 August 2007 05:31 (eighteen years ago)

Apart from the many many lolz, I liked the way the relationship between the two high school friends was made clear and real. I was a social outcast in high school, and I had that kind of friend as well. We were two against the world, etc. We hung out almost exclusively with each other. And we talked about sex as obsessively as these guys do (though not nearly as filthy). And yes, we loved each other, even though we were clearly headed in different directions. We got jealous of each other's girlfriends and had fights that were something approaching class conflicts, all of that. I think the movie captures that dynamic very well.

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

I LOVED THIS FUCKING MOVIE

gff, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:50 (eighteen years ago)

all the bit players were gr8!! cocaine dudes esp! so scary! "these eyes," unbelieveable...

gff, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:51 (eighteen years ago)

also loved the quote of the jungle book at the end

gff, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:52 (eighteen years ago)

latebloomer, Saturday, 18 August 2007 08:19 (eighteen years ago)

"these eyes," unbelieveable...

this got loud applause from the audience I was with

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Sony Pictures Entertainment"

Here comes big business, changing the internet forever. Oh well.

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

OK found the R-rated version - it's a slob comedy, right?

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

Awesome. I agree with the "These Eyes" comments. SO FUNNY. I am a little bit in love with both Cera and Hill now - they were both so so cute. McLovin is a hero.

ENBB, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

I stayed and watched the end credits, and laughed a lot more, and that made me question my sexuality. :)

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

It wasn't a big laugh during the movie, but I keep chuckling thinking about how Seth explains that "something like 8% of kids do it." Like, that's what his therapist told him or something.

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

We were talking about that on the way out and one of my friends mentioned her old boss at the pizza place was definitely in the 8%.

In so many of these high school/college movies they get the actors to just play a type and the acting is either poor or lazy. I was kind of afraid after seeing the preview that the guy playing McLovin would just come off as a guy pretending to be really dorky, but my god, he really pulled off the intense awkwardness in a few scenes, as did all of them.

mh, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

Intense awkwardness, but also a strange, totally unearned sense of self-possession. That's why he's McLovin.

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

"something like 8% of kids do it" was great. I totally expected it to be bed wetting and then couldn't stop laughing when he busted out with the dick drawing. The Mr. T dick was the best.

ENBB, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

I think the tiananmen square dick was the one that got me.

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

I occurs to me that McLovin is not only destined to be one those unforgettable-of-all-time movie characters, like Bluto Blutarsky or the like, but that he may become a new entry into our collective vocabulary. We'll have to wait and see how people start using the word "McLovin."

kenan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

It helps that the ancillary characters in "Superbad" aren't wholly repellent douches.

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

what, you wkiw the cops in Superbad?

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

If I were a teen? Maybe. (They would buy me beer!)

The cops in "Superbad" were much less repellent than Seth Rogan's friends and Katherine Heigl's family in "Knocked Up".

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann are the best part of Knocked Up, who cares if their characters would be 'repellent' as IRL people

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

that's the fastest volte-face I've seen in a while

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

"adventureland" is great - roughly as good as "superbad," but considerably less of a straight-up comedy.

Simon H., Monday, 30 March 2009 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

lol yeah i was like if i'm gonna be a hypocrite i'm gonna shotgun it

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

i really liekd adventureland, saw it this morning. not LOL hilariosu but a really nice gentle comedy

s1ocki, Monday, 30 March 2009 18:42 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha

I liked "Knocked Up" (and I thought Rudd/Mann were much funnier than Rogan's friends) but I spent much more of the movie wanting to throttle the supporting cast than I did laughing at them. I think the extra laye of unrealistic ridiculousness in the cops' behavior helped me handwave their toolishness in support of the comedy rather than working against it.

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:42 (seventeen years ago)

the cops are fuckin awesome in superbad

s1ocki, Monday, 30 March 2009 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

"MCLOVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" lol

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

"we should be guiding his cock, not blocking it"

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

are you being sarcastic cuz ya that line is hilarious

s1ocki, Monday, 30 March 2009 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

I am not being sarcastic at all! I loved the cops!

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

ok cool :D

s1ocki, Monday, 30 March 2009 18:46 (seventeen years ago)

they were funny, i just think they came off more repellent and douchey than KU's standard issue stoner cru

the worst breed of fong (some dude), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

(I am willing to concede on a rational level that the "tooliness" I'm very mildly complaining about in "Knocked Up" also exists in "Superbad, but due to the setting it makes more sense and didn't get in the way of me enjoying the movie.)

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

well they played obnoxious cops xp

s1ocki, Monday, 30 March 2009 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

the MAIN characters in Knocked Up are more repellent than the repellent ancillary characters!

ryan, Monday, 30 March 2009 20:53 (seventeen years ago)

ehhhhhh.

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:02 (seventeen years ago)

btw slocki a nice gentle non hilarious comedy wtf exactly u trying to say

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:03 (seventeen years ago)

I dunno it's more of a coming of age type movie.. kind of thing I would have dug when I was a kid or something

s1ocki, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

its not like yuk a minute but it is funny

s1ocki, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:41 (seventeen years ago)

I can't stand the cops in Superbad, but without them you'd have really awesome 50-minute movie. I've liked Rogen less with each movie.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 05:03 (seventeen years ago)

i saw it once and i remember - aside from the leads they were the biggest part of the movie

all i see above is people shooting the shit about a movie... talking about the parts they liked... i guess in your mind it's like supernerds feverishly discussing minutiae but really... it's not

who the fuck remembers the second most prominent character in a movie, you fucking nerds?

srsly morbz, the Paul Rudd freaking out on mushrooms in Vegas scene and Paul Rudd sneaking out to play fantasy football/gridiron thing are written as much more significant parts of the movie (esp for what they signify to Rogen's "character journey") than anything involving Heigl. except maybe Heigl at work, that was good and actually about her, rather than her reacting to/affecting Rogen.

(gave this one viewing in the cinema, haven't seen since)

I had a dream once that I was staying at friends' house in LA and we were hanging/partying out with Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzmann but something went wrong and Jonah died of a heart attack and we were all freaked out and didn't want anybody to know he had died or we would get blamed for it so we threw his body in the bathtub with a bunch of ice, which then froze over so he looked like frozen Han Solo in Empire and then we had to keep all the other party guests out of the bathroom lest they discover that we had accidentally murdered Jonah Hill. I forget how it ended.
