I really feel like Star Jones or someone with such ersatz extravagance in the stuff. But maybe you do not!
― Abbott, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)
Abbott - no amount of leopard print could make someone as awesome as yourself into someone as evil, horrible, and scary as Star Jones. That said, I understand where you're coming from regarding the animal prints. I feel kind of silly in them myself.
― ENBB, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)
Classssssssssssssssssic. Leopard print goes with everything.
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)
Leopard print never fails to make any woman look trashy. Sorry, ladies.
― elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)
I thought it was way cool at age 15 and even then I felt horribly self-conscious in it.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)
xp Maybe to you, gay boy.
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)
i can't do it zebra print however
― rrrobyn, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)
Shit wait can I take that back? I missed the op to make a crack about tie-dye. TOO LATE!
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)
I might be able to do like leopard print flats but that's about it - not clothes. I think I associate it with too many tacky Long Island housewives who shop exclusively through the bloomingdales catalog and LP shoes with gold leopards on the heels and then call them pumps.
― ENBB, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)
Wait - that didn't make sense. Sorry. I think some people can pull of leopard print but I agree with Elmo that it usually looks trashy and/or tacky.
― ENBB, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)
I have a leopard-print twinset that I got at TJ Maxx in Muskegon, MI. Despite being of lovely quality, it was on clearance for like eight bucks because in Michigan only alcoholic bleached-out fading-glamour kind of mothers could possib wear them. And that's EXACTLY what I love about it.
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)
Laurel, I think leopard print is kinda used as a shorthard for "luxurious" and "sexy," even when the clothing in question is neither of those things. It just seems false and tacky to me.
As for tie-dye... we all have our vices.
― elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)
Elmo, I don't think that at all, we have v different perceptions about the aura/significance of this pattern. There is bad quality EVERYTHING, a high-visibility print will CERTAINLY not disguise/redeem trash. But I think dismissing the print out of hand is short-sighted in the extreme.
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)
zebra print 4 eva
i have a pair of snakeskin print tights that i can't throw away, but i haven't worn them since highschool. somebody told me i looked like a french whore and i haven't been able to wear them ever since.
― bell_labs, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)
Surely no one has used real leopard for ANYTHING for long enough that it's not even a pretense of a pretense anymore?
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)
Bell!! I didn't know the reptilian look was ever "in" among ladies of la nuit...?
― Laurel, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)
it's pretty sharply delineated on gender lines, laurel. ebay search for "leopard print" returned the following:
Women's Clothing (975) Women's Accessories, Handbags (537) Women's Shoes (451) ... Men's Accessories (16) Men's Clothing (8) Men's Shoes (7)
the men's stuff is mostly sexxxy undies and guido shoes. 'nuff said.

― Surmounter, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)
If I see a girl in leopard print I automatically think Bet Lynch or Manics Fan. Sorry. I think it can look quite nice in very small amounts e.g. as a trimming on a top or something, or on shoes.

i have an old coat -- bright red with leopard print collar -- that can be done up right if i have the right hat/gloves/scarf/shoes on, but otherwise, i think for the most part, at least for now, leopard print has seen its day.
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)
I have a leopard-print guitar strap that has the effect of making me rock 2x as hard as I do with a plain strap. So clearly, "C".
― libcrypt, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 22:32 (eighteen years ago)
That's okay, all you people not buying leopard-print sweater sets in angora will be leaving them to me ON SALE.

Whoa, elmo, you found a veritable sahara: a leaopard-print cameltoe!

That's not a cameltoe. That's a camel sausage.

I had a leopard print loveseat once upon a time. But it was kind of like a joke that had to be explained over and over, so I gave it away.

http://media.laweekly.com/1482571.56.jpg This brazen, drunken hussy forced her tongue into Mozzer's mouth the first night at the Hollywood Palladium while he was singing a new, unreleased song with his eyes closed. Right after she assaulted him, he wiped his mouth and declared, "Disgusting!" Later he said it tasted like she had been "siphoning jet fuel from a 747 with her mouth...or maybe it was the Stella". She's been nicknamed "Bam-Bam" and "leopard-print tongue-rapist" thanks to her classy outfit.
I have a faux leopard-print tiny purse and matching porno shoes (highheeled platforms). I only wear them when I want to look esp. trashy and campy.

So for Xmas last year apparently my grand uncle, a hairdresser/dancer in Chicago who left Ireland in the 50s and stops by our house occasionally when he comes to Europe to see his friend Julio in Spain (you can read between the lines) gave my parents LEOPARD PRINT SHEETS.
My mum said she doesn't want them and said she tried to give them to my brothers and sisters but they refused. I have decided to give them a home. We're talking a really tight leopard print, they are damn quality sheets too. This moght be a new chapter in my life, a sexual renaissance.
Use this thread to recount tales of weirdo presents, and also to tell me if I can get away with this sexy linen.
