I really, really want to see it, but when it came to town I was out of town

I saw it last month. It's Tony Kaye, so it's not subtle, but you could say I "liked" it.

After I acknowledged that, yes, the film had challenged my personal ethics and shook the foundations of my beliefs, I also took time to note how bad hair and eyewear was in the early 90s.

Adam pretty much OTM. There are some interesting, maybe valuable things about it -- most of which have been well-publicized, such as the abortion procedure. The talking heads are totally useless and say exactly what you'd expect (more so even than in most 'issue' documentaries). I guess it's worth seeing but it doesn't really pay back either the viewer's 3-hour investment or Tony Kaye's 15-year one.

The score is v.v. suffocating as well.

Abortion is not pretty. It never was pretty. It never could be pretty. It is physically draining, much as a miscarriage is physically draining. It is an emotional punch in the gut. But sometimes it is the best option among a host of bad options, and it needs to be kept available to those who need it.

Ranting at a woman who chooses to endure this medical insult to her body and mind, for personal reasons an outsider cannot share, and calling her a murderer and a harlot, is not helpful. If abortion ever goes away, the reasons for it will not.

I really, really want to see this but prolly need to be in a stable mental piece 'cause I reckon it has shattering potential to yrs truly, like slowly reintegrating after a bad trip.

four months pass...

saw this finally - reminded me of "The Power of Nightmares" to some extent. I'm not sure of Kaye's point - a lot of the time it seems like he's saying "abortion isn't the issue at all, the issue is political power & control and abortion is a useful issue to use as a fulcrum" but then the rest of the time he's focusing very intensely on the process itself - the whole movie builds to an examination of an abortion from arrival at the clinic through the procedure. I guess that might be the point: to portray the reality of something that's talked about in spun terms by people who have a horse to ride about it. Unclear to me.

Gorgeously photographed, obviously.
