there was a time when this would be a scandal.

guess i should have said "that FEMA news conference"
It would be a scandal except that this is really no different from what a "real" news conference would have

it's more bizarre than shocking. why not just give a prepared speech, then? "here are some questions you might have that i'd like to answer for you ..."
if anything it's a zing on the american people. when did the mediation of political messages get so important that FEMA feels the need to spin a public a statement as a Q+A?

that's what's so fucked up, the pointlessness of it. yeah this is small potatoes but wtf kind of decision-making is going on?
1. nobody would give a fuck if fema held a presser and, for whatever reason, nobody showed 1a. nobody in the public anyway 2. it's of course unethical to fake a news conference, but beyond that it's really...labor intensive and just wierd 3. and it's risky! because who is going to figure out that the media wasn't actually at an event held for its benefit. that's right...the media!
i mean, who thought this was a good idea?? or a 'necessary' idea. that is if the "press didn't show so we had to cover" is really the reason, and it wasn't a potemkin conference all along.
