I had the movie poster on my wall in high school. I'd never seen it, and I still haven't, but she looked pretty groovy.

Library! Jersey City! Yes!
Which is to say, the interior shots of her library were filmed at the downtown branch in Jersey City, a very nice, comforting old building indeed.

i remember this being shitty even by the standards of mid-90s indie films, but it's been a while. i recall that parker was alright in it tho. it did predict the NYTimes reported "trend" of hipsters going to library school.
do you like the film "Kicking & Screaming" too? that's another indie dud of the time that people always claim was grebt. i don't get it......

I was thinking about Parker Posey the other day. You often get Americans who have surnames for firstnames, but she goes one better by having what sounds like a firstname as her surname.

posey sounds like a first name?
Still not sure why Kicking & Screaming is a cult classic worthy of a Criterion release and Glory Daze (equally shitty, but starring Ben Affleck and w/ a better soundtrack) is consigned to the dustbin of history.

posey sounds like a first name?
well, there is that Posie Simmonds woman. I think that is her name. Maybe Posey sounds like neither a first nor a second name, which would make it unique.

I set out to see this at a theatre last week: got halfway to London and realized I was supposed to be going to Waterloo in the opposite direction. So I went home and found it on YouTube for free.
Thought the first half-hour was kind of annoying, but liked the rest better, starting with the sequence that intercut Posey organizing her DJ roommate's record collection with the roommate at work and smitten by the woman he eyes across the room. Great song--my best guess from the credits, maybe Ultra Naté? (If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.) I connected more with the film's rhythms after that, and its absurd sense of humour, on full display in the final scene where Posey tries to make her partying friends understand that she really, really wants to be a librarian.
Seems that the director, Daisy von Scherler Mayer, didn't get much opportunity to do features after that, but she's been very active in television, directing episodes of Mad Men (S3's "Seven Twenty Three"), Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, and much more.

And she's married to David Carbonara, who did the excellent soundtrack work on Mad Men (not the pop songs, but the incidental soundtrack, including "The Carousel").

the main thing I remember from this movie is 'he he hello' and her absurd platforms and that is enough for me to still like it
