I was cooking and fucked up. Now there are stains. 409 and Lysol turned it from yellow to red, but when I wiped off the red, there was still a yellow ring on my counter. I really don't want to lose my deposit. I have no bleach or ajax at home, and I'm in no shape to drive. Will anything else work?

cover the whole bench in a thin layer of tumeric

that would have been my last-ditch effort. but the vinegar worked mostly—the stains are still present, but very faded.

i will probably pick up some more cleansers tomorrow, the extra-abrasive ones.

Have you tried baking soda?
― I know, right?, Monday, 29 October 2007 08:30 (eighteen years ago)
I haven't tried it against Tumeric, but WD-40 can work magic in a variety of domestic applications (just test on a hidden area first).

Gin is probably the best household cleaner there is.
Definitely don't go abrasive, that will fuck up the worktop way more than a turmeric stain.

Yes, gin works really well. Pour some over the turmeric stain, then lick clean. It's a household cleaner and cocktail combined!
Alternatively, rub the stain with the cut half of a lemon.

I've done this plenty of times. Bleach is juist as effective the next day, or days, later. Doesn't stain permanently.

yeah don't worry about it, it doesn't stain permamently. I've probably stained everything in my kitchen with turmeric at one point or another.

its on a par with beet juice in terms of looking horrible but eventually going away

If you have some dishwasher detergent (not just dish soap), put some of that on the stain (carefully make a paste if you have the powdered stuff). It's incredibly caustic (like bleach), so don't get it on anything else. Let it sit for a minute, wipe off with a paper towel, rinse thoroughly with water, if it didn't all come off, repeat.

I'm back from work now and can't even tell that there was a stain! Thanks for all your help! I ended up sprinkling some baking soda on top of the vingar that was still soaking in, and left it for a few minutes to fizz up. It may have helped that the countertops were recently reglazed before we moved in.
