SEPARATED AT BIRF

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

you know I kind of thought "why does that pastor look like Joe Torre" and then I realized he's wearing a scarf.

jessie monster, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

there was a magazine ad where simms and torre looked even more like the sonic guys than they do there, which is where I first realized this

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

Umm why would anyone NOT rep for Sonic?

nabisco, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

STILL HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SONIC, YOU GUYS! ;_;

horseshoe, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

sonic = tease

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

dudes, i love the sonic commercials.

also, i love tots.

molly mummenschanz, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

Me and Jesse and some other Chilxors are pals with one of the women in a Sonic commercial except I've never seen hers because it doesn't air in Chicago.

Jenny, Monday, 29 October 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

bnw gets it

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

are the sonic ad cast all chicago improv people?
those guys up there have apparently done 115 of them

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

that is like a lifetime of sonic products to shill

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

Our friend is a Chicago improv person. I don't know about the rest of the actors, but I do recall her saying that the ads are all improv.

Jenny, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

The guy she works with in the commercials is currently an LA improv guy.

jeff, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

oh is she the one who has to deal with the weird nebbish? he's all "you got a raspberry iced tea, what does that say about YOU?" and she sez "that I'm an ADULT" hilarious

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

ok not really hilarious but decent enough for teevee trying to sell me things I can never have

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

My latest fave involves a secret dude hiding in the backseat of T.J. and Pete's car.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

have not seen!!!

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, their national campaigns have been pissing me off for years now: don't remind me of your tasty shit if you're not prepared to sell it within 50 miles of where I live!

(That said, I am actually considering a trip out toward Philly to hit the nearest Sonic: NYCILXors please contact if interested)

nabisco, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

I can't wait until I go home for thanksgiving so I can have SONIC. FUCK TURKEY.

jessie monster, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

plz tell me FUCK TURKEY is but one of an amazing array of delicacies that Sonic has to offer

HI DERE, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

fuck turkey is actually the one lyric that had to be excised from daft punk's "teachers" prior to release

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

FUCK TURKEY
IN THE HOUSE

HI DERE, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

saturday, when i was at sonic getting a strawberry cream pie milkshame (OMG ACTUAL TYPO), err, milkSHAKE, i saw them pimping their new fried delight: macaroni and cheese bits. yeah, breaded mac and cheese bites.

molly mummenschanz, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ omg

jessie monster, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

fried things let me eat you

jessie monster, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

She did one commercial with another woman (friend is Indian, other woman was white, they were supposed to be "Latina" she said... yeesh) and then just filmed another but I don't know what that one was about.

Jenny, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

This is friend's headshot: http://www.stirfridaynight.org/images/headshots/sayjal_joshi.jpg

Jenny, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't need Sonic's weird-ass inventions or fruit-syrup ice-buckets: just give me a bacon cheeseburger, some salty fries, and a straight chocolate malt.

nabisco, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

sucks to live in a city where people care about being fatasses :D

bnw, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

ha! bnw otm.

horseshoe, Monday, 29 October 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

nabisco, totally. their breakfast burrito is nasty. it has tots in it, which i think would be a good thing, but no, it's just weird and makes me die a little inside.

NB i used to live 3 blocks from a sonic, and had never had previous exposure to one (i.e. moved halfway across the country). those were dangerous times (for my colon).

molly mummenschanz, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

TJ Jagodowski is a Chicago improv dude. I've seen him perform at iO.

jaymc, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

My bad. I thought you were talking Molly Erdman.

jeff, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

I tried their weird fried cheesecake things last summer. no thanks anyway, but plz give me all the foot-long chili cheez dogs + tots + Route 44 limeade which is to die for.

Jaq, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:28 (eighteen years ago)

Aw fuck the commercials are the WORST THING about Sonic. Not too crazy abt the Full Throttle slushee either.

Those cheesecake things sound the yumtacular bizarre of the world of unusual fried things. So do the mac 'n' cheese bits! But they also sound like they could def. be disappointing of even gross. Tell me how these food items are.

Could someone recommend me the secret yum foods of the Sonic menu? I usually get route 44 limeade and then can't figure out any food items because their menu is so busy and overflowing and kind of sort of barely like another language. "Texas Toast"? I'm not that crazy abt hot dogs in general, so they're out (unless like they are extra awesome), and I didn't like their popcorn chicken or cheese sticks (*cries,* normally cheese sticks are my faves!). This thread is making me want to eat there tonight.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

if you live near a sonic and don't go down the menu and try everything then you suck

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

seriously going to sonic and getting the same stuff everytime, when it's not like a once-every-six-months-or-more kind of experience, that is just wrong

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

"Texas Toast"?

Texas Toast is not even close to like barely another language.

Mr. Que, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

the cheesecake things were stickier than I wanted them to be, also did not like the fake neon red "dipping sauce" stuff.

There are many delightful toothsome things at Sonic, but sometimes you have to be in the mood for them. Like Frito pie.

Jaq, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

there isnt a sonic w/in hundreds of miles of ny yet those commercials are on all the time. why? also i hate them so much. i have never eaten the sonic.

jhøshea, Monday, 29 October 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

Same thing in Chicago! I have no idea where the closest Sonic is. The only one I've ever been to was on a family vacation in, like, Mississippi.

jaymc, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

T.J. Jagodowski is awesome.

gr8080, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

I know what Texas toast is but when it's mangled with 136 other menu options, half of which have registered trademarks next to them, they're hardly words anymore.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

yeah maybe you just need to focus when you get to the Sonic

Mr. Que, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

FOCUS ON SONICS

Mr. Que, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

omg frito pie

HI DERE, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

Sonic is pretty much an infrequent experience for me bcz I've been like in love with Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich + baked spud combo. NOM. AND, like I said, I can't figure out a goddamn thing to eat there! Maybe I'll get the mac 'n' cheese bits & report back, unless someobne warns me in the next 1.5 hours.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

Waht is zees Frito Pie?

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

Your friendly neighborhood Sonic locator.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

Coneys
Extra-long with cheese and chili, Coneys are a traditional SONIC® favorite!

Try These Add Ons:
Hot Chili, Crispy Bacon, Cheese

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

This sounds decent:

Bacon Cheeseburger TOASTER® Sandwich
Single meat, Bacon, Dill Pickle, Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, an Onion Ring & Hickory BBQ sauce

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

Frito pie: layer of Fritos, topped w/chili, topped w/ cheez/onion/jalapenos/sour cream, in one of those paper boat things

possibly created by Daisy Dean Doolin, right after the Frito was invented.

Jaq, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

someone needs to create a formula for how frequently ILX threads turn into discussions about fast food.

gr8080, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.sonicdrivein.com/images/menu_promo_extraLongBaconCheddarCheesesteak2.jpg

HOLY FUCKING POOP

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

What, you think you have to go to Philadelphia to get a quality cheesesteak? Just swing by any SONIC® (including the Philadelphia locations) and order a big, hearty, meat-lovers sandwich—juicy steak smothered with smoky cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, grilled onions and mayonnaise. Only SONIC® makes it extra long. Because we know that the regular amount of flavor just won't cut the mustard ... I mean mayo. There's no mustard. Forget I mentioned that.

See this is why their menu is kind of like a baby mushroom trip for me.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

OK, here is the closest Sonic to me:

601 NORTH MATTIS AVENUE
CHAMPAIGN, IL 618212451
(217) 356-1230
Drive-Thru Available
131.03 miles

jaymc, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

it's worth it jaymc

Jaq, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know why you would read any of that. It says "extra long bacon cheddar cheesesteak." the rest of the copy is totally superfluous.

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

But I don't think half these things are on any cheesesteak I've ever had! juicy steak smothered with smoky cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, grilled onions and mayonnaise

Bacon & mayonnaise?

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

They're just making crap up!

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

I would like to kick any non-poultry sandwich with mayo on it in the neck.

HI DERE, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

I hate to tell you this, people who live in Sonic-less parts of the world, but Sonic's food is awful. Top to fucking bottom.

milo z, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

even the Texas Toast can't hold a candle to the sublime Whataburger Texas Toast.

milo z, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

I hate mayonaisse to, Dan! I hate it so much! I thought that was the funniest facet of Undercover Brother bar none. Hot dogh w/cheese sauce doesn't need mayo.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

too, too, I hate it TOO

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

you people do not like bacon with mayo?
fuck you people. just fuck you.

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

omg there's a Sonic® 10 miles outside of Portland and now i know.

Clay, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

Whataburger is pretty shit, INMFFO

Mr. Que, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:18 (eighteen years ago)

portland it is

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

I don't get Whataburger at all. Maybe if those bastards served breakfast all day! Their chicken & honey biscuit looks awesome but yeah like I'm going to drive there before 10:30 a.m. to eat it.

Abbott, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

Whataburger makes the only good fast-food chicken strips + great fries.

Basically, it is drunk food A+++++. The burgers might suck, I dunno.

milo z, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

oh okay right on i was just talking about Whataburger's burgers.

Mr. Que, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

they should have wmataburgers
for on the trains
get it

El Tomboto, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

*badabump*

Mr. Que, Monday, 29 October 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

I stopped at a Sonic a couple weeks ago and was so overtaken by the itis afterwards that I took a stealth nap at the table for 45 minutes before I could summon up the gusto to bike the 2 miles home.

nickalicious, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 00:45 (eighteen years ago)

lol u did it wrong it is a drive in not a bike in
u supposed to fall asleep at the wheel

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

Sonic has helped make me the fat tub of goo I am today. The burgers, coneys, onion rings and tots are good, the fries are meh, the limeade is good, the breakfast burritos are GODAWFUL.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 01:57 (eighteen years ago)

the breakfast burritos are GODAWFUL.

amen.

but Sonic's food is awful. Top to fucking bottom.

Sonic was responsible for the most awful vomit-related night of my life, involving myself, my dad, and my pregnant mother doing some pretty impressive floor-ruining tag-team chunk-blowing.

I will admit, however, that this was in 1993 Clarksville, TN, where the only health code regulation seems to have been "If you could keep the excrement levels to less than 10%, we'd really appreciate it. Y'all."

en i see kay, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:22 (eighteen years ago)

note to self: do not eat in clarksville

molly mummenschanz, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:33 (eighteen years ago)

Especially not in 1993. Gah.

en i see kay, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, it's nice to live in a location where I can just saunter down the street to Sonic and get one of those Apple/Cherry -ades. It makes up for not being able to go to Boston Market, those weird adult Chuck E. Cheese places where adults play racecar video games all night, and (goddammit) Krystal Burgers.

In many restaurants in Little Rock, those big toasted pieces of bread are called "Texarkana Toast". We also play a form of poker called "Texarkana Hold-Em". HATERZ ROLL.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:46 (eighteen years ago)

It was down by Louisiana
Just about a mile from Texarkana
In them old, old cottonfields
with toast

Abbott, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:47 (eighteen years ago)

'adult Chuck E. Cheese' = Dave & Buster's?

Boston Market veggies are so good.

milo z, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 04:14 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Dave & Buster's. It's like Applebee's meets Showbiz, right?

I also miss Ember's in a weird sort of way.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

does dave and buster's have an animatronic jug band? 'cuz if so, i'm there.

molly mummenschanz, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

xp - yeah, that's about right - TGI McFunster's plus drunk people playing skeeball.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 04:56 (eighteen years ago)

Ha! I did not make it to Hot Doug's for duck-fat-fried fries last week, but I DID hit that Sonic in Champaign - NOM NOM NOM. Also, Steak N Shake. And the mighty White Castle. This is what the midwest means to me: greasy drive-in/thru foods.

Jaq, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

why the hell does minnesota get a shit ton of 'sonic' commercials
when the closest one is in sioux falls, south dakota?

also, phil simms' hair > everything

the sir weeze, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 15:32 (eighteen years ago)
